Guster – Red Oyster Cult Lyrics 16 years ago
I interpret the narrator as being the "temptation" of getting into drugs. The narrator is talking to this disillusioned person and trying to convince him of "drinking this tea" and "joining the cult".
The person is disappointed with himself because he realizes he's growing old and hasn't really done any of the things he used to dream when he was younger, so, he gets into the temptation of taking drugs. The narrator would be like that little devil on people's shoulder on cartoons (not literally! just some mysterious person, probably just inside of his head). He tries to persuade him by focusing on how sad his life is and showing the good things that would come with the drugs, like, not having to grow up, returning to the age when he was happy and full of dreams and having back the freedom he had then.
Following this "story line", in the end, that solo with the Aahhh's, that would mean that he took the tea. In this part the image of a guy falling in a whirl always comes to my mind, suits perfectly with the solo!
But it's just a theory, what do you guys think of it?

The Academy Is... – Down and Out Lyrics 16 years ago
I think I agree with GreenHobo21, but I'll try to explain more deeply.
To me, the firsts stanzas talk about this girl who was "down" and couldn't handle it, so she gave up (suicides?). That's the "down and out" he talks about, and in these first stanzas William is telling the story of this girl as an example.
In the chorus, he questions what she did and also "sends out a message" to everyone, he says "life should not be that way", never should be "down and out". Instead of giving up, even though sometimes we are scared, we should speak, and try to change things.
Then he says he sees people in bad situations like that all the time. Marriages and friendships falling to pieces. He admits that things indeed can be bad ("all good things must end") BUT, despite of how bad things are, he "reminds us" of how good things must have been at some point and says that that's what we've gotta hold on to.
Then he mentions some of his friends who live like that, accepting that life has its "downs" and "ups" but not letting the "downs" get to them. Garrett is happy now in France, but he has had and will have bad times like everyone. And he talks about some of his own good times with these good albums, his best friends. "The good things will live in our hearts". :)

The Dresden Dolls – 672 Lyrics 17 years ago
I really liked some the theories I read here, but to me the meaning is much simpler, quite obvious and a little disappointing too, I must admit, haha.
You are mostly talking about the meaning of the number 672, but I think the song is just about how we are always trying to figure out the meaning of amanda's songs (or the meaning of things, in general).
music may be like a way of expressing your feelings and saying things you wouldn't tell anyone (like secrets). I think that maybe amanda went like: "yeah? already figured out that one? take that, then!", picked out these numbers that may or may not have a great meaning to her and did this song, just to talk about how people are trying to find a meaning in everything she says.
In the end when she says "someday they'll find out about you too", the "you" is refering to the song or the number itself, someday people will found out about this number too.
...but we won't!
not unless she tells us. :D

Ashlee Simpson – Boys Lyrics 18 years ago
I think that some parts of these lyrics are wrong,
like "You're hearing me sayin', I'm sayin no". I'm pretty sure that she says: "You're hearing me say yes, I'm sayin' no".
and "I'm not one of those girls that you think you know" is actually "I'm not one of those girls you think that you know".

Jack's Mannequin – La La Lie Lyrics 18 years ago
i think la la lie is not just a hook at all. i get the song like this:

he broke up with his girlfriend (or the opposite idk) saying that he's done and everything else. then he says that he's gonna be fine without her, that he got friends that will help him, but he knows this is a lie (la la lie)... he actually doesnt have friends or his friends are not gonna help him
and in the end he says that this is a long goodbye, but he's actually coming back to his girl by july.
i dont know if he actually said these things to his girlfriend. it may be just things that he said to himself to get over with the breaking up, but he knew they were not true.
