| Guillemots – Redwings Lyrics | 17 years ago |

For me this song was one of my favourites when I saw Guillemots live, it's so hauntingly beautiful. This is how I hear the first verse and a bit: 'This is where we fall from the tree This is where the sky cowers up Daft kingdom of joy, you made a man out of me This is where the glass leaves the lens...' This is very poingant song for me - about a relationship that can't quite work even though it's fuelled with intense love, friendship and passion. |

| Bright Eyes – Make War Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
So hurry up and run to the one that you love And blind him with your kindness And he'll make war, oh, war, on who you were before And claim all that has spoiled in your heart In all honesty, however you look at the rest of this song, this chorus is the embodiment of young love - the notion that one person will do anything they can for somebody to love them. |

The music in this song is far more compelling than the lyrics I feel, and the vocals at 'when you cannot love...' onwards are chilling. xxx |

| Guillemots – If The World Ends Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
This song is one of my all-time favourites, I cry almost every time I hear it. I agree with Jawlipop with the vagueness and the fact that it just fits with me. To me it's the perfect simplicity of love conveyed within the lyrics and the vocals that really speaks to me. For me, the 'meaning' of the lyrics is just about a boy who loves a girl, and the girl should be leaving, maybe moving house, whatever... 'fate is telling me you will not go'... so he makes his declaration: 'If the world ends, I hope you're here with me' 'In my dream you were playing woth buckets of sand...' I love that this section sounds like the seaside, with seagull-type noises and almost whale song being created with the synths. Also, little suggestion on the brazilian bit at the end (Thanks so much for the translation)- my view is that it runs on into the next song... 'But the world didn't end, Yet somehow... We're Here' They are reunited, and the joy of We're Here completes the pretty package, they live happily ever after. It's just beautiful. Purely beautiful. xxx |

| Guillemots – Cats Eyes Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I love this song. Guillemots are such masters at creating pretty pictures in my head with such beautiful use of instruments and lyrics. I would kill to write like this. Also, I'm pretty sure that "Cause they lead us back there with cold lunatic skill' is actually "Cause the leaders back there are called lunatics here' But thanks for putting these up, some bits I could barely comprehend, just a pleasing mush of syllables to me xxx |

| Guillemots – Sao Paulo Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I heard some bits completely differently: Sit down my love of open spaces In grief my love has all been spent... ...And friends especially I did make there A tenth floor window took her home. These lyrics, right or wrong, sound like he has lost someone he really loved in some kind of tragedy, possibly even through suicide; home being heaven, or hell. I also agree with Donkey81 on the 2nd chorus lyrics, defintely 'nine'. And, the geek I am, it's sao paolo on itunes/Gracenote listings and são paulo on the album cover. Can't wait for album 2. And 'From the Cliffs' is also well worth the buy, another smidge of genius from the jaws of perfection xxx |

| Bright Eyes – The Movement of a Hand Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Soon all the joy that pours from everything makes fountains of your eyes Because you finally understand the movement of a hand waving you goodbye To me this song is about innocence. This part puts me on the verge of tears. It seems this couple is so incredibly happy, but the narrator knows it must end, however much he doesn't want it to. When he says goodbye, all the happiness they have shared is turned to tears, and she, innocent and confused is ripped from her fantasy as he leaves her. She is feeling the pain of parting for the first time and doesn't understand why. |

| Bright Eyes – No One Would Riot for Less Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
in response to misshoneyfoot: Well, kindness is a card game Or a bent-up cigarette In the trenches, in the hard rain With the bullet and a bet I think this is talking about how in such terrible situations as war, kindness is embodied by the smallest actions, such as the normality of a card game and the sharing of a bent up cigarette, where life and humanity are at their most fragile. Wake, baby, wake Leave that blanket around you There's no where else safe This part makes my heart soar. In the sickening image of this war torn land, the safest place is in the security of a blanket. And the new few lines makes you feel even safer... I'm leaving this place But there's nothing I'm planning to take Just you... I love this illusion of safety in a horribly ravaged world. It's so hopeful. |
