Obviously, it's referencing the Salem witch trials, which were an atrocity to say the least. To me, this song sends the message that as a society, we have become too quick to judge and condemn people because of their beliefs or lifestyle..... and that's nothing new for America. It also makes the statement that we now have the legal freedom (while honoring those who died and helped earn that right for us) to be who we want, but that doesn't mean that society accepts us. |
