| Joanna Newsom – Ribbon Bows Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| just been reading toni morrison's "song of solomon" and about halfway through chapter ten i came across the line "sane, appraising eyes of the dogs"--and i found myself singing it in my head. this song is why. i remember reading somewhere that joanna likes toni morrison. can't quite see any other connections to the book in this song, though. | |

| Sufjan Stevens – Kill Lyrics | 17 years ago |

Oy! Look what I found! "According to Stevens, the song "Kill" is taken from Sherwood Anderson's short story "The Man Who Became a Woman." --from an article in Sound Collector, Issue 8, 2003. I haven't read the short story mentioned, but I thought it was interesting to find that out... |

| Sufjan Stevens – I Can't Even Lift My Head Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| sounds to me like he's saying "the" Father, not "your" father. which makes this song infinitely more relevant and heart-wrenching to me. ...those are just my views, though. | |

on the wall of the lincoln memorial, right above lincoln's statue, it says, "in this temple, as in the hearts of the people, for whom he saved the union." i like suf's twist. :) |

| The Innocence Mission – The Lakes of Canada Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
this song is absolutely amazing. my favorite, ever. and it's really killing me that i have no idea what she's singing after "look for me another time, give me another day i feel that i can change" (those lyrics aren't printed here. gotta get that fixed.) she sings that part again, except that first line is something very different from "look for me another time". it's really killing me--does anyone know? |
