I can relate to this song... When my ex broke up with me I was heart broken. Even though he wanted to stay in contact, he never gave me the space to get over him. Whenever I got used to him being in my life, he would bail straight away and it always confused me. Whenever he or I were in a rough patch with our new partners, he would come back and reminisce about our relationship, then one day BAM, he disappears. Little things really screwed me over. Then at one point we were very close, but he said since I was going abroad, we couldn't be together (though he said we'll see what happens later). Holding on to this, I got through being abroad because I thought I'd be back in his safe arms, but it turns out, he got back with his other partner. I've never felt so betrayed... This song helps me convey my emotions. I listen to song whenever I feel insecure about my relationships. |

When I first heard this song, my instant response was my experience after my lover committed suicide... "You can't find the phone, So you can call it off. But it might be for the best You can't walk away, anyway, Cause you've nowhere else to go" -- this line reminds me of the times I was invited to outings... I wanted to numb the emotions instead of dealing with it. I couldn't walk away from the pain but it was best for me to go through grief at my own terms... I couldn't escape. "Is he worth all this, is it a simple yes? Cause if you have to think, it's fucked Feels like you loved him more, than he loved you And you wish you'd never met" -- I remember times where I thought is the pain he put me through worth it? Because the situation was fucked and he was suicidal... the fact that he left me showed that I loved him so much more than he loved me or himself... At times I felt I wish we never met because of all the "what ifs" in my head. "You've been up all night, and the night before. You've lost count of drinks and time And your friends keep calling, worried sick, There's strangers everywhere" -- I would be up all night crying, just denying to myself that he will walk in at some point of the night to say, "why are you crying? I never killed myself..." or just "i love you". To avoid that, I went out every night and just drowned myself with alcohol. My friends would call me because my behaviour was becoming unpredictable. Where I live, is a small city where everyone knows everyone... so at nights out, I would meet people who have already heard of me through my lover's suicide and that was their 'way' to talk to me. "When you took the call, how could you know, That he'd slipped away last night And you wish you went home, days ago To say goodbye or just hello" -- I got the call a few hours after his passing, and I wish I went to his home and tell him it was okay. I wished to be able to say goodbye or to tell him that I loved him. This is my own interpretation. |

i can relate to this song very well. my boyfriend broke up with me 4 years ago but he and i have been friends since.. during the 4 years, i have had a few replacements but it was never as good as that relationship and being friends with him has been the hardest thing because i was still madly in love with him but couldn't tell him how hurt i've been since he broke it off with me (pretty much set a closure) incase he blocked me outa his life after 'cause at the end of the day, i want to be a part of his every day life 'cause being best friends with him is the closest i can be... hence the lines: "And yes there are times when I hate you But I don't complain Cause I've been afraid that you would walk away Oh but now I don't hate you I'm happy to say That I will be there at the end of the day" the thing is, until now he "has no idea why" he broke up with me... (yeah i asked him why he honestly did it so i can learn and that was his answer...) amazing song. |

sorry i'm slightly hungover so i'm gna blab. Why would it be about prison when he sings "I'm on the ledge of the eighteenth story"? I think this song is about suicide and how the lover was the only reason why he lived. but since she isn't going to support him anymore, he feels there's no reason at all to live. "And teach me wrong from right" this line confused me but in my opinion I think he's thinking suicide is wrong and your words are right but he'll jump off if he doesn't get reassured. I can relate to this song. My boyfriend commited suicide a few months ago and when I listen to this song, I wonder if this was what was going in his head before he jumped off a building. he said I was the only reason why he lived because his family disowned him (he got kicked out of his house and out of school) I let him in my house and my father and I supported him financially. I was the only one who showed him love but he wasn't himself at the end of his months that when I told him I couldn't deal with him anymore and I wanted him out of the house and for him to start taking responsibility of his own life... even though i was still willing to help him financially with school, he took over his life. |

wow this is like one of those songs where you sit and watch this amazing view and have this song playing in the background. when i first heard this song, i thought it was sweet... kinda like hellogoodbye but 1000X with more emotion... until the girl came in, i thought "oh my gosh, this is not just any song...this is amazing" when it starts with "I opened my eyes last night and saw you in the low light" i always think, the guy has finally realized what he has in front of his eyes i love these lines: "When we’re apart whatever are you thinking of?" and "All my islands have sunk in the deep, so I can hardly relax or even oversleep" i wish i went through this again (what is said in the lyrics) |

i can relate to every word of this song. i don't know how to put it.. i really like my boyfriend but we haven't been close.. he told me he changed for me but now he's like.. a completely different person and it seems like i've been fighting for that old him to come back and appreciate me. i think this song is about how people take her as a pouncing lesbian rather than an individual. yeah, MAYBE sexuality can be involved, but it seems like theres more to it than that.. i think the main message she wants to send across is: be who you are and don't let them mould you to someone who don't want to be. its about being an individual, and i can agree to 'ilovecandi' :) |
