The part that says
One was the poet's love
One was the poet's love
sounds like it should say
One was the poet's love
One was the poet's *wife* |

"I think it's:
Lover, I don't play to win
But for the thrill until I'm spent"
I agree. It doesn't sound like she's saying "befall."

According to the lyrics booklet, the part that says "He begins his quiet ascension without anyone's steady instruction to a place of no religion / He's found a path to her likeness" should be "He begins his quiet ascension without anyone's *sturdy* instruction to a place *that* no religion *has* found a path to *or a* likeness." |

I like this song, and I was wondering if anyone knows where I can find the original version of this song. I like the album ersion fine, but I don't want to listen to her sing "doo doo doo doo" for two minutes at the end of the song. Can anyone help? |

Actually, I heard that when Regina was performing the song, she was doing a funny dance, which was why the audience was laughing, in addition to the whole "Jew under my skin" instead of "you." ;) |

I doubt the theory about God...because why would she refer to God as "babe"? Otherwise, though, I see it. |

I haven't listened to this song in a while, but I think it says "in the room," not "in Rome," and "in some heated place" should be "in some hidden place." |

I completely agree with liberatepotatoe's interpretation, except I don't think that the heroin boy was trying to take a bath because that was the last thing he could do in his life that he had control over, and that it was the first random thing he could think of because he wasn't in a fit state of mind. I think he was actually trying to drown himself in the tub, because he would rather kill himself than be executed. And I know that idea would clash with the whole "a man destined to hang can never drown", but he was probably just saying that either to console Daniel or to just make him shut up, or because he was in denial himself about the end of his own life coming nearer, whether it was of his own hand or someone else's. But I think that because the song ends right there, when he says "I want to take a fuckin' bath", it probably means that he went ahead and took the bath, immediately drowning himself. |
