| Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark – Tesla Girls Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
I read an interview with McClusky back when this was released. He said that "Tesla Girls" were women who used modern technology (such as a microwave oven) with ease, with no regard (or desire to know) for how it works. It was a kind of positive statement regarding their unsung intelligence and he said the song was an ode to women in general. His words, not mine. |

Sorry, I meant to say that the cigar lyric is a reference to Pink Floyd in general, and the song is based around the concept that 'Time' is. There are other Pink Floyd references on the album, both lyrically and musically. |

| The full name is "Pure Adrenalin"; can be clearly seen at 4:21. | |
| Porcupine Tree – Time Flies Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| It may be closer to Animals in musical concept, but I feel sure that the cigar reference is an allusion to 'Time' from The Dark Side of the Moon. The theme of time flying as you get older is... the same. (And yes it does!) | |

| I should have made it more clear that 'suburbia' was still a new concept in the 60's. Hemel Hempstead was actually developed as a 'new town' after WWII. The experiment is widely considered to be a complete failure. For extra credit check out 'Pruit Igoe' from Philip Glass' 'Koyaanisqatsi' soundtrack. Similar modern urban development project, total disaster [torn down in the early 1970's]. | |

| I think the words 'suburban heaven' are intended as sarcasm. Back in the late 60's (when I was born also) the suburbs were supposed to be some kind of nirvana of modern living. Check out the song 'Little Boxes' notable for its use on the show Weeds. That song is all about 'suburban heaven' and is more than a little sarcastic. | |
| XTC – Making Plans For Nigel Lyrics | 16 years ago |

doodleboy's impression of this song is by far the most accurate. I was a tween during this era and this music very much made me who I am. The song is ironic, in that British Steel ultimately laid thousands of employees off because the Conservatives (the British version of the U.S. Republican Party) got it all horribly wrong. There was much unemployment (the source of the Sex Pistols angst towards Thatcher and Queen Elizabeth) and getting a job in the mining, steel, or automotive industry was supposed to be the panacea. Of course, those industries are all but dead now in Britain. |

Having listened to the lyrics properly for the first time today, I am completely convinced that this is Neil Tennant's song to Chris Lowe. Neil has always come off as the (more) extroverted one, and I remember that Chris would explain his glasses and hats as being his way of hiding in public. Also, consider the song "One Of The Crowd". Well, this is Neil's way of showing appreciation, and explaining that he couldn't do what he does without Chris. Anyone agree? |

| New Order – Vanishing Point Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Despite the reference, this song is plain and simply a reference to child abuse. Sumner has a thing for that subject (I don't know if there is a particular reason). | |
| New Order – Paradise Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Sumner sings about murder or similar a lot in his songs. His lyrics are probably designed to evoke the desperation at the end of a relationship. A lot of his work is on the subject of relationship problems, or seems to be. | |
| Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark – Enola Gay Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
To anybody who is interested... Just do a little reading to get the facts, or failing that watch a few movies. The truth is that the Japanese were already attacking Pearl Harbor when they declared war. To some it would seem fitting that the bombs were dropped after the Japanese surrendered. That isn't true though. Sure, the bombings were an atrocity, and should never have taken place, however... The official surrender by the Japanese didn't happen until several days after "Fat Man" was detonated 1800 feet above Nagasaki. The surrender was not only the result of the second detonation, but also in response to the Soviet invasion of Manchuria which happened on the same day. Moreover, I would like to reinforce the fact that OMD are not in awe of the bombings. The song is deliberately melancholic because it is intended to evoke an emotional response to these terrible events. And for anyone who really wonders why the bombs were dropped: they were intended as a display of power for the benefit of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. The Soviets already had a functional nuclear program and the Cold War was already underway in Germany when the USSR took control of what became East Germany. |

| Boards of Canada – Dandelion Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
A Dandelion is not a fish, or any animal. It's a name given to a type of underwater lava formation. Lava formations under water are very fragile and so... The whole documentary that the samples were taken from is on the topic of lava formations in or near sea water. |

Hey, whisk3rs, good job on the lyrics... It is: Jesus Christ's on fire both times (and I think it makes sense). However, the line "Soft regardless" is definitely "Self regardless", which is the same as saying "selfless", i.e. not selfish. Peace! |

I've been so frustrated that nobody seems to have the definitive lyrics for this amazing song. I ended up spending 2 - 3 hours with a graphic equalizer in an attempt to isolate the words from the music. There is some pretty impenetrable sibilance created by the effects on the vocals, but I finally came up with something that I'm 98% happy with. Please respond if you're certain that I have something wrong. As for the meaning, I prefer not to know the exact meaning as it adds an air of mystery. I think this is probably Ulrich's most beautiful work so far. When I got the album I played this one song over and over for about 3 days! Here's my version of the lyrics: Heaven Help take me back To the dreamworld Life has been just once Answer my prayer Take away all the fear And let me fall asleep Let me fall asleep... fall asleep You know You have to let it go Don't cry So hard to say goodbye She will never return Never again be part of What was once Felt so secure Just adored But it is getting oh so cold It is getting cold... getting cold You know You have to let it go Don't cry So hard to say goodbye So hard to say goodbye You have to let it go So hard to say goodbye |

| Ulrich Schnauss – Goodbye Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Well, I certainly agree that the lyrics are very hard to discern accurately. Sometimes I hear different words! But I am sure that the line you have as "don't go" is actually "don't cry". I will attempt one day to listen and verify the rest of the lyrics for this song. It is indeed a wonderful song. | |
