Madonna – Ray of Light Lyrics 11 years ago
There's only one thing quicker than a ray of light.

Considering Madonna's comments on the mystical nature of the song and her interest in Kabbalah, I think the song refers to a personal experience of God, and the perspective that understanding such an experience can provide. She may sometimes be referring to God herself.

Sugar – Hoover Dam Lyrics 15 years ago
To me, it's about the struggle to navigate between different states of mind along a thin line damming up of trillions of gallons of emotion, where a small thing might blow you over the edge, and you learn to accept what you need to do. Bob spent much of his early career in Minneapolis, which is on the Mississippi.

Editors – Smokers Outside the Hospital Doors Lyrics 18 years ago
This song asks us to consider our freedom to do as we please, and the importance of communication and paying attention. We can “pull the blindfold down,” and run recklessly through life. Sadly, many people do that even when the consequences are very clear, as if they don’t see, hear, or believe them. If you don’t smash into a tree while running blindfolded, someone can turn you around; you can remove the blindfold and start again. You would wonder about what happened while you were blinded, perhaps why your hands are dirty. It’s important to communicate, pay attention, and learn from our own and others misfortunes that leave hearts broken and parts smashed. The saddest thing is people who leave the blindfold pulled down; smoking outside the hospital door.

This is a brilliant song. Very positive and uplifting if you look at it the right way; even if it my not be exactly what was intended. This shows how you can be lead farther than carried; it’s best when lyrics leave some things open to interpretation.
