This song is about him being in love with someone he can't have. The woman he loves lives in a fake world(ie, L.A. where he wrote the song) and lives with a "cracked polystyrene man". Polystyrene is a plastic used for things like cd cases, platic cutlery and the likes. It is a colorless unbendable and unpliable plastic. When he refers to she looks like the real thing... my fake plastic love. he is refering to his love as fake and platic, not her. |

I think this song is about a man who cares more about his work than his family. He is willing to do whatever it takes to be succsessful even at the expense of his family and coworkers. |

okay, first off Bright eyes, that is a song called jolene written and sang by Dolly parton. So it has nothing to do with the cake song "Jolene"
I think the lyric that everyone is missing is "cream rinse" What this says to me, is that she is trying to get rid of the tobacco smoke smell. I see both the cream rinse and tobacco smoke as metaphors about her life.
There is something in her life that she hates, and stays with her. and instead of getting rid of it, or moving away from it, she tries to cover it up. He wants to throw her out into space, he wants to do whatever it takes. He wants to save her from her mundane existance and free her from the need for cream rinse |

The song is about how modern american comercialism, money and marketing now control everything to the point of a religion. When he says "we are now accepting callers who would like to sing along" he is using the radio station idea as a metaphor for the country itself selling itself to comercialism and industrialism. |

This song is a riddle, just as the cd title will tell you that they are all riddles. All the songs have a little more to them than you would assume at first listen. This song is against execution, and anyone who says that it is violence to solve violence is wrong, that part of the song is part of the riddle. |
