Every time I listen to Ani "i found myself spellbound at the sight of her, so beautiful and grotesque"- I just can't imagine my life without her music, definetely she is one of the few people truly in Resistance, against the "quaint tragedies we invent", against the sistem and the vacuity of the life offered to us... This song is perfect... for my is as good as been in love with someone and held him, or her, while throwing into their hair, as good as wanting to offer my pulse and give my breath to someone... |

I absolutely agree... I was absorbed with Blue and ladies of the canyon (both great albums) but when I heard for the roses... wow.
This song means a lot to me, I've been there. It's full of contradictions and fear, even though she is trying to say she's better, there's something hurt and fragile- I love it! |

I think she speaks about freedom, and in certain way you are right. Being a woman, a musician and a painter... Joni had to live every angle of that word. I think that the song is a kind of confession and a picture of a harmfull loneliness, the sad part of been free. It's about her and not at same time. Joni lived as she preached, the cactus woman on the song lived her freedom hurting the people that loved her... I don't know, but everytime I listen to that song I realize how difficult is life and love... I even shoot a short film inspired on that song- |
