Monster Magnet – Wall Of Fire Lyrics 16 years ago
I'm just gonna say this song is about rough, awesome sex! 8)

Would make sense, in my opinion. ;)
Especially the chorus points towards rough sex, I believe:

"Baby, I kinda like you crazy
Like climbing up the Wall of Fire
I know you wouldn't hurt me
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Baby, I like it when you're crazy
Like climbing up the Wall of Fire
I like it when you hurt me
Yeah, yeah, yeah"

YES!!! YES!!!

I couldnt agree more...
Like, I kinda get the whole enema-image with like, the media/politicians just feed us their BS and we cant do anything about it and whatnot.

But I definitely do not like it.

Sonata Arctica – Destruction Preventer Lyrics 17 years ago
Well, I guess time for me to state my interpretation. :P

”I believe and trust in my land,”

A general statement of patriotism I’d say.

”I control, I am in charge of
Everyones future, red button is mine”

Sounds like the head of a great and powerful nation. He has the power to change everyone’s future; he has access to the “red button” to unleash his power. To me, sounds a lot like references to nuclear weapons and/or the Third World War.

”I controlled, I was in charge, now
I thought the red storm would rise and destroy us all.”

The “Red Storm that would come to destroy” sounds a lot like the fear of Communism that was so prevalent during the cold war, especially in the United States.
Also, the band being from Finland hints to this interpretation. If I’m not mistaken Finland had great fear of being invaded by the Soviets throughout the Cold War, therefore propaganda that a “Red Storm” would come and destroy doesn’t seem to far stretched I believe.

”Heat in the center, destruction preventer

”Heat in the center” sounds almost like a description of a nuke to me, and how on the outside its just a cold metal thing, but on the inside there’s almost infinite power (and heat).
I’d almost say the “Destruction Preventer” is a direct reference to nuclear weapons. Although a nuclear weapon is a device built to destroy, it is also meant as a way of ending something while keeping yourself / your nation from harm.

“If you release one, you release 'em all”

Clear and direct reference to nuclear warfare. One nuke starts it all.
If you drop one, your enemy will defend himself… with nukes.

”You can't defend Her, kneel down and surrender

The “Her”, right after the “red storm” sounds to me like a reference to the “Motherland”, aka Russia / the Soviet Union. It seems to me that these are the thoughts the mentioned head of state has. “You will go down, I will prevail”-type of thoughts every general/president probably has before a great military strike.

“Your end is at hand, if they blow”
If the nuclear weapons are triggered, the enemy will be annihilated, plain and simple.

”If you go and have their way now,
you will never have your choice
Catch a breath of air in your lungs,
it might be your never get to
do it again because this is the end”

If you support the enemy (aka Communism) you won’t ever be free, but merely… uhm.. dead? “This is the end, we’re coming for you” or “If you’re with the enemy, we’ll send you to extinction”.

”Yesterday I saw a light, moving fast across the sky
Now I see a glow, left and right,
Stars are falling down tonight, I fear...
And the pouring rain, eating my green lawn,
leaving a stain
Never healing back to be the same”

This has two possible interpretations for me. Either, yesterday the head of state sent a missile / bomber over to the enemy, and now he sees the consequences of the enemy defending himself. Or, the “light” simply refers to a missile / bomber sent by the enemy.

”Please, tell me who won here tonight
The price of winning worthless fight”

Both parties are completely annihilated, therefore there is no real “winner”. Both parties lost because of their countries having been destroyed, their people killed.

”We'll make the same mistakes again
Unless, this is truly the end”

A war (World War-like) will happen again, because we are humans and we won’t ever change. It will happen again, unless this is the end of mankind.

The peaceful ending symbolizes the actual time after the end of the war, when humans are extinct and for the first and last time there is a perfect state of “world peace” with no humans to mess it up.

So generally speaking, I believe this song to be about nuclear war and its consequences. Not only between the US and the Soviet Union, but generally the abuse of power and nuclear weapons. The Cold War is only referred to in this song to visualize the general idea of this song.

And with that being said: Great fuckin’ song!

P.S.
Nine Inch Nails’ “In This Twilight” and “Zero Sum” (both on the “Year Zero” album) refer to a similar topic, with the Nine Inch Nails songs merely focused on the actual impact and its consequences and less on the war that started it all. In case anyone is interested in the topic.

Slayer – Epidemic Lyrics 17 years ago
First I thought it was about the plague as well, but HIV/AIDS seems to make a bit more sense.

"Breeding Fast In Poverty"
Well, no need to explain that I guess? If so - Take a look at Africa

"... Dormant Seed"
Dormant since it takes a while to show symptoms and all that.

"Commit Slow Death"
It doesn't kill you immediately and it takes a long time - But there is no way to stop it.

"Permanent Disease"
Kinda the same as the two above.

"Years Will Pass Before It Can Be Cured"
Well, obvious.

Just my guess though.

Stratovarius – Distant Skies Lyrics 18 years ago
I haven't figured out how it relates to the lyrics of the song yet, but at the gig at Wacken some days ago (which f'n kicked ass! :D ), Timo said that this song is about lying.

I'm well aware that Jutah's intepretation makes much more sense, though. oO
