this song is obviously about like the government and just older people in general who think they know all about teenagers and want to transform us and make us grow up to be citizens. duh. the lyrics are so plainly said. theres nothing to comprehend here. seriously people... its so obvious! and the authorities are scared of teens because they are able to be violent and they THINK they understand us but they know they really DONT. duh. |

well firstly, i dont see why JACK JOHNSON would sing about glass or a surfboard [for the first couple of people that posted comments] if you know anything about Jack, he loves to use symbolism and allegories. secondly, i think he is talking about a girl. a sexy girl whose obbessed about her looks and trying to impress. and shes got a lot of issues behind her sexiness. and shes not really good about hiding her issues because shes constantly breaking down "easier to see through" and shes having sex unmarried "with no ring" and shes depressed and broken over it or is feeling low "softer and sadder you sing" since most whores have very low self esteem. maybe hes saying if she would stop doing that and not have to break down all the time her image wouldnt matter so much to her "shape wont matter" and shes killing herself over time that is only in her head and she blames the time for her actions. and everyones left her because she was such a whore. and whores are only used. and shes wasting time by doing this whoreish stuff and shes dying inside. could be symbolism for a lot of teenage girls... not totally sure about this stuff... they are very complex lyrics. of course it makes it all the more fun to think about and try to comprehend... |

this song is utterly amazing. as we all agree... i was just contemplating on this subject how so many little children are doing things that they shouldnt be doing. trying to act other than they are. and all children do this... but its gotten worse over the years. as do all generations. but its really getting rediculous. and im worried. i have a little cousin and i see her going down this road too. and i was talking to my mom about this. and she asked me "well who is going to do anything about it?" and i told her "theres not one specific group to do anything. everyone needs to do something about it and save these kids from sure destruction." everyone can do something different. parents can care more and get involved in their childrens lives. siblings and older family members can mention when they are getting out of hand. friends can hold their friends accountable for their actions. but we have to start with ourselves. the media wont change until we reject it. jack illustrates this extremely well. jack is doing his part by putting his stunning talent to good use. lets make a change together. :) if you change yourself. others will change too once they see the good we all have. |

i freaking love this song. i believe its talking about ending a relationship as well. they talk about how the relationship was perfect and full of love "Picture perfect Turned to worthless" but then she started lying to him "Silly me for thinking honesty is something Given free," but then he took control and decided to end it "I make the rules And this is how it is" maybe even by "You bring the bullets, I'll bring the guns" he means she brought the issue "bullets" and hes going to end it "guns" because he cant take her lying and he knows its over and never going to get better because theres no more trust "Your mistakes are too much to put behind I am tired With no desire To put together things that just fall apart" thats what it sounds like to me :) |
