I wonder if this song has any connections to Pink Flyod? Talking about A pig, blue sky, record stuck. I'm not a Pink Floyd expert, but it seems like there's more.

Dead Can Dance – Don't Fade Away Lyrics 14 years ago
This is a beautiful song.

To me it's about when you first fall in love and nothing else matters. The only thing you care about is being with your loved one right here, right now. You feel on top of the world and so sure about everything. You see the rest of the world (people, responsibilities) as a sort of evil trying to break you out of your enlightenment, and you feel sorry that they aren't experiencing what you are.

Dead Can Dance – American Dreaming Lyrics 14 years ago
This reminds me of a quote from "Fight Club":

"Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy shit we don't need. We're the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great War's a spiritual war... our Great Depression is our lives. We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won't. And we're slowly learning that fact. And we're very, very pissed off."

No one said this so far, but if you've ever seen West Side Story, there's a "Bernardo" who's in the "Jets" gang.

Does anyone know the name of the classical music that is sampled in the beginning of this song? It's an actual song; I've heard it before. I think Monty Python used it in a sketch, and I think I've heard it on Ren and Stimpy, too

Needtobreathe – Something Beautiful Lyrics 15 years ago
I hate to sound negative, but I really don't like the voice of this singer. The whole time he's singing, all I can picture is the boy from Family Guy singing it.

I hate family guy, so the song doesn't inspire me to do anything but turn the radio off.

Rusted Root – Send Me On My Way Lyrics 15 years ago
It has always been my opinion that he was trying to make the English lyrics sound like a foreign language, mainly, an "earthen" language, like an African tribe. I even thought he was saying "You know what they say about the young", but trying to make it sound foreign.

After watching the video, I think it supports this theory for his singing style, except that it would be American Indian-ish. However, if you watch it, you can clearly see on three instances that the "youknowwhattheysayabouttheyoung" lyric ends in a distinctive "om" sound. Therefore, I would say that he is definitely just chanting gibberish to sound Native American.

The Allman Brothers Band – Mountain Jam Lyrics 16 years ago
The wife pointed something out today as we were listening to this. She wasn't even aware of the title to this song.

Re-occuring parts of the melody of this song sound very similiar to Donovan's "There is a Mountain".

Do you think that is what jamming to?

Kid Rock – All Summer Long Lyrics 17 years ago
This song is terrible. I feel like I loose brain cells everytime I hear it.
I completely agree with Morehouse25.
All I can think of when I hear it is a bunch of Joe Dirt trailer trash rednecks hanging out in front of thier tralier next to a pile of bud light cans, bobbing their heads to this crap.

I prefer to think that they are not concieved yet. This may not be directed to HIS kids or may not even be him at the time when he wrote this. I remember having these sentiments about my wife before we were married.

Yes, SoCon, some guys do think about these things. I fell like I've been waiting my whole life for my family, and even when I was in H.S., I couldn't wait to have a family. Now,even though we have two girls, I sing this to my wife.

Who knows, we could have more.

I don't buy any of these explanations. Maybe it's just a fun song that doesn't really mean anything

If anything, it makes me think of a lime wedge on a glass of Pina Colada

This song reminds me of Lord of the Flies

BTW, Duranie, I'm sure you know that that wasn't the only time Simon was stuck under water. He also capsized his sailboat during a big regatta.

Also, I should note that C.C. is from San Antonio, and frequented Corpus Christi to sail, so maybe that's why it fits so well.

Christopher Cross – Sailing Lyrics 18 years ago
How cool is it for a 16 year old to appreciate a song like this. I thought all kids were busy listening to pop/punk and using blades on their arms instead of their hair!

Anyway, I can totally relate to this song. I've loved sailing my whole life, but lived in central Texas and never had the opportunity to sail (I guess it's in my blood). When I moved down here to Corpus Christi, I began sailing, and this song is a complete representation of the feeling I get under sail, especially coming into the marina at sunset.

Most of you guys are idiots, and I'd have to agree with aphekgs. If you like that movie, so what; he's talking about the people who go on and on about it like its the best movie ever made.

Get off the band wagon people and go see some real movies. Just cause it's the only movie you've seen that wasn't sponsored by disney and Mcdonalds, doens't mean it's the best movie ever made. I've seen it twice. It was okay, but there are much better movies out there.

As for the song, it's great, and the band is awesome. Id go re-live the eighties again just because of these guys... and perhaps Back to the Future

Dave Matthews Band – If I Had a Boat Lyrics 18 years ago
Wrong answer!

As a sailor myself, its very obvious. This song is about the lone cowboy saying screw the rest of the world, I'm going out alone, away from you guys and all I need is my pony.
There's been other songs and stories where they would just ride off into the dessert, but on a boat on the sea, you are the King, and you don't have to answer to anyone.
