This makes me think of my Grandma and Grandpa... My Grandma has Alzheimer's. Their love was incredible, but now she's so far gone... He once stated he would never leave her side, but he couldn't watch her deteriorate from a ball of energy into a bed ridden person who forgets everything and never wants to get out of bed... It's not that she can't get up, she just doesn't have the will. He had to move out and live separately. The way she views her love for him now is very very similar to these lyrics. It makes me feel so sad... And it's kind of ironic, as my Grandpa's name is "Joseph". Hmm. Male version of the name, but still. |

This song reminds me a lot of something one of my friends is going through.. She's actually said almost exactly what is being said in this song. She was in a very, very good relationship and a few months before their 1 year her boyfriend committed suicide, and now she's doing everything she can to just not forget his face or the sound of his voice or the way he looked, etc. It's so sad.. |

I have always related to this song because of an actual life experience that relates so closely it's hard for me NOT to see it that way. It's about two friends, and one could have had a mental illness (depression) and their family always treated them poorly and choose t ("That you never called home"; Then they ask what went wrong When you never had it right") And then the person attempts suicide but fails, and after that the family keeps them in a sort of personality-type "drug-induced-coma". If you've ever been on any of that stuff, it can make you feel very empty and change your personality drastically. Maybe the person also experienced some crippling element that has made them bed ridden as well. The family now is very protective and in their struggle to answer what went wrong, they blame it on everyone else and keep the person to themselves. Thus, the remaining friend can only remember when the two of them played and ran around together and actually had dreams and aspired for life. Now they haven't seen their friend since as they are cooped up in their house. They're leaving letters and the family says the other person is recieving them, but he's not quite sure. He doesn't want to believe that his friend no longer wants to interact with him. He's pleading to his friend to break free from their control and drugs and to let him back into their life so that they can return to their lives and dreams... If that friend even cares about anything anymore. |

| From personal experience, I would have to say this song is about a relationship that hasn't ended yet. Looking at the lyrics, it looks as if he's being lead on and may have even been physically left behind (AKA she moved away, or suddenly can never see him.) In his time alone he is thinking about everything and is calling her bluff- she doesn't really love him. Now he's struggling with trying to let her go because he truly adores her. | |

To me.. It really is a song about a girl who loves a guy and the guy starts out just using her, like he's used all of his other girlfriends. "I am not worried I've done this sort of thing before", references to pinning her for display, lying to her, etc. She begins to really become emotionally unstable as she can tell he doesn't really fully love her and it's tearing her apart. She knows he's just using her but she loves him and she doesn't know what to do. (It happens. I've experienced it firsthand.) As this happens, he realizes he is losing her. As a result, he is forced to face his feelings and he really isn't ready for that. He doesn't want to admit he's finally in love. As he falls more and more for her and begins falling apart himself, and it scares him so he doesn't even try to hang on to her. Her kindness and love frighten him now, as do his own suddenly powerful feelings.. And since he's too scared to try and get her to stay, she leaves him. Now he's left to deal with his broken heart and strong feelings by himself, and he's really not ready to deal with all of that. |

This song is about someone who had to make the choice between moving somewhere for some opportunity and staying with their lover, from the lover's POV. They watch as the person struggles (who is both in love and afraid to be away from their lover,) and then become really upset by the fact that they want to leave and are actually considering it. They threw themselves into the relationship and gave everything, and now they hate being stuck in this limbo. They hate the fact that the other is considering giving them up, even with all they have together. And then the letting go. Looks like the final step will be taken on "Sunday afternoon", and the lover isn't going to cry until they know the other is truly leaving... And it looks like it's leaning that way. It's heartwrenching. I'm in a similar situation myself right now... I feel the exact same way. Leave or stay. Leave or stay. |

It's pretty obvious what it's about, atleast to me... Maybe because I've thought and felt something similar. It's about making yourself vulnerable to someone- letting yourself love someone, even though you aren't a very trusting optimistic person- you automatically think that by opening up to someone you are setting yourself up for heartache. Thus, by giving away his heart, he is basically asking for it to be broken. |

Hmm. Coming from someone who totally related to this song:: It's more about (I think) someone who does all this stuff for someone who doesn't notice or care, and rather than give up on them, he is treated like shit and then left behind. And he just watches as the person who turned away from him (possibly to someone else) is overtaken by everything and falls apart. It's a very painful thing to have happen to you. |

And to get full understanding of the song, I need to make a correction: "Left me for all she had known but I pushed it all away from me." should be "LOVED ME" not "LEFT ME." or else it wouldn't make sense. :] How could he push away her leaving him? He can't, he pushed away her LOVE. |

Its a metaphor for a girl. It usually is. It all makes sense when you look at it like you would at most other songs. He watches the girl he loves struggle with something and she's thinking of giving up, and he wants to do anything in his power to make her feel good again and to make everything better and to take her away from where she's trapped because he needs her.. And just... Yeahh. I thought that kinda thing immediately when I heard it. That's just how I see it. |
