Okay, so yeah, I'll be the first to admit that I'm not the world's biggest fan of Hilary, that's beside the point. When I first heard this song, my immediate reaction was "dang, sad teenage love...jealousy is a bummer..." but that just didn't seem right. So, I finally looked up the lyrics. Reading over them, and then youtube-ing the song, I have to agree with some of the previous posts in here- Maybe it's not about jealousy. At least, not jealousy of a physical third party. Maybe it's about being in that state where technically, you're where you wanted to be- You have everything you thought you wanted, you should be happy. Everything's going so right...but you just don't feel complete, and it's maddening and saddening all at once. Who is this other side of me, that gets to be so happy with you and my life? Why is the me inside not really feeling it? I wish I could. ...but that's just what I think. |

This song is about quite possibly the most painful of loving- You know that I love you. I want you to know that I'm so tired and numb from having given my whole heart to you, I just don't care at this point. I see you every time your lovely eyes enter a room, and your wonderful self follows. I see you, but as far as you're concerned, I'm not even there. ...even though it's all true, just know that I'm so in love with you that it just doesn't matter anymore. To me, that's kind of what this song begins to mean. Without a doubt, it brings truth to the old adage that less is more. It's simplicity is beautiful. I just want you to know. |
