Dio – Holy Diver Lyrics 16 years ago
After reading Dio's comments as well as other comments here on the forums I've come up with a very simplistic interpretation that mirrors others' as well.

Holy is something that is sacred or divine. As a Christian our bodies are considered holy temples of God. (this is why we are to take care of them and not destroy or defile them)

Diver is conventionally thought of as someone who pludges into water. BUT it can also mean someone that goes head first into something. A lot of times we tend to do things with little planning or thinking about the future outcomes or consequences.

Now, putting these two things together with Dio's comments about not judging a book by it's cover we get a song about Christians (Holy men and women) who judge others' by their appearances. It's all too common to meet those who care more about outward appearances than what's inside of a person. This is where we get things like the Catholic priests who abuse little boys. Unfortunately, this tends to be human nature (not the sex with little boys thing though lol).

So to summarize I believe this song is about hypocritcal Christians (or all people really) who are too quick to judge others.
