I am going to try and take a stab at the meaning of this song. The lyrics to this song talk about a love, losing it, and then contemplating suicide. In real life terms, coupled with his comments before and lyrics in the official video for "Inside the Fire" off of Disturbed's fourth album, he is referring to his own experience. I do not believe that the conjecture of losing his woman to another man accurately depicts the situation. In this song he talks about losing her ambiguously as to avoid saying that she killed herself, but the emphasis he puts into the lyrics "Never Awaken" leads me to believe he is using a double entendre. When you look at both sets of lyrics, it also shows logical steps in the (albeit, a very drawn out) Grief Cycle. I guess it pays in a lyricist's career to hold on to very hurtful memories. Anyway, it's just my guess, I could be very wrong, but the evidence is stacked high enough to comment. |
