This song is about you. If you understand Metallica's message from this day and age it was all about corporate greed, the evils of the media and the government and corruption. James himself is miserable because HE insists that the weight of the world be on his shoulders. There's more to life than what you see, and throughout all his songs he is trying to make you see. This song is for those that do and are in the same stream as him. These times are sent to try man's souls. When we stand there screaming the truth of the world and yet if falls on deaf ears, would that not drive you to insanity? He stood there screaming, fearing that no one would listen. When he says "There's something wrong with all you see. You you'll take it all on yourself. Remember, misery loves company." He means that you already know that our lives in America are owned by corporate greed, and that you the listener who understands tries to take the evils of the world onto his shoulders and feels that it is his mission to correct the misdeeds of mankind. Misery Loves Company. I love that line, because it means that no matter how much you scream, even if you can't hear them, someone else is screaming the truth right there with you. |
