System of a Down – Darts Lyrics 18 years ago
First off the voice he uses for "may I please" might be the most insane sounding voice ever heard. Anyway he is talking about two life threatening lifestyles. A hitman is definitely life threatening, going around killing people. And since nuns aren't allowed to get married and have kids then that could be considered "life threatening". I'm not sure whether he's saying the two are lovers or not though. If it's a separate category then it's probably meant to be cynical but I don't know.

They Might Be Giants – Dr Worm Lyrics 18 years ago
I almost forgot to mention that in a concert once they did say it was about a doctor who thinks he's a worm. Still they were explaining the song to a bunch of small children so they might have tried to simplify it. And in case anybody hadn't guessed by now the post about the whole war analogy was sarcastic...

You can put drug references into a song without being on them. I could sing about drugs for the next 5 years and never even lay eyes on them in person. And I'm going to go along with the music video, it is about a worm who plays the drums. Not a person. Though I do think the reference to "I'm not a real doctor but I play one on tv" is accurate.Other than that, this song is just fun. Every other song they write is full of metaphors, just let this one be enjoyable.

They Might Be Giants – A Self Called Nowhere Lyrics 18 years ago
But as for the song... I came up with the idea that they might have been implying a place that's a "self-called" nowhere.(Just a place the protagonist thinks of as being nowhere) But it's also possible that the self is a metaphor for a place.

Carser you're jumping to conclusions. There are different versions of Mink Car, one that was released in the US, and the other was a UK release, so yes they did have different songs, bands do that sometimes. And otherwise I really don't know what you're talking about with the old songs. They only do that on collection albums... they'll release a collection but then put in some bonus material. So you should definitely reconsider your stance on buying their material, especially since their new album the else is so amazing. (pretty much all new songs)
