To be honest, I have no idea the certain meaning of this song, but in any case Ive always thought of it to be the true and harsh school hierarchy including bullying that Kurt experienced during school. Plz dnt get pissed if u don’t agree with me I jst felt like sayin all this shit ‘Load up on guns, bring your friends’ I think is mainly preparing for the war of bullying at school each day.. ‘Its fun to lose and to pretend’ is talking about being constantly losing and beaten is seen to be amusing to the dicks who are bullying and to pretend you were someone else and different things were happening is more enjoyable than reality. ‘Shes over bored and self assured, oh no I know a dirty word’ just is showing how Kurt despises the comfortable and bitchy lives of some people in school. Probly describing a popular chick. ‘Hello, hello, hello, how low?’ I think is him trying to be friendly, only to see how low others will go to be cruel and hurtful to him. ‘With the lights out, its less dangerous’, I always thought this line was about how others seem to simply ignore bullying and some of the shit people do to eachother in school and how just pulling a blind eye [the lights out], they will be safe from victimization themselves [less dangerous]. ‘Here we are now, entertain us’, this is hard but I always just considered it to be the feeling of a bully victim and how the only thing left is to be entertained to forget shit that’s happened. ‘I feel stupid, and contagious’ – feeling shit about the bullying ‘A mulatto, an albino, a mosquito, my libido’ I actually have no idea of the meaning, it seems to be Kurt just shouting the different kinds of stuff in school and how they are abused, an albino a common insult, libido(sex drive) is deprived..- also is a fuckin awesome way to end the chorus. ‘Im worst at what I do best’ – I always thought this is how everybody in some way often becomes a bully in a way themselves, although he is preaching how shit people are to eachother, the ones who despise it can often be the problem themselves. I think this is Kurt referring to the ‘jocks’ and how some of them may seem to be all for peace, when they don’t know where to start with the people around them and how they are just total cocks themselves. ‘And for this gift I feel blessed’ – being able to acknowledge the problem of the way people are to each other and feeling at peace from not following others in the hateful way some people in the school are. ‘Our little group has always been, and always will until the end’ – describing the few people who understand the hate that is seen in school and committing themselves to being completely against it. ‘And I forget just why I taste, oh yeah I guess it makes me smile’ – I could only figure out that this meant Kurt thought why bother trying to enjoy shit wen the only thing that happens out of it is pain, then he remembers it’s only the small things that allows him to cope with school life. ‘I found it hard, its hard to find’ – how difficult people find it to find peace with eachother in school. ‘Ohwell, whatever, nevermind’ – how people seeking peace give up and continue their torment of others ‘A Denial’ – people who claim to be sweet with peace although knowing they themselves harm others for their own enjoyment, only to deny it to themselves and seek the reputation of the cool and peaceful guy. This idea is influenced by someone in my own life and is most likely nowhere near the real meaning of the line, or the song We know Kurt was depressed and that he was bullied, and that is what I think is the main inspiration for this song. ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ we know is from a spray can, but I think it is also connected to the hate of teen life. Anyway. Peace. |
