Probably not John Henry's intention, but the section
"I'll make light of this night and night of this day//It's what I tell myself to sleep when I dream myself awake"
took on personal significance to me. In the past 2 years I started having night-time hallucinations due to REM disturbances pretty regularly. I literally "dream myself awake," and I sit there all night thinking about the "turbulence" of the waking nightmares. The whole experience is rather disturbing, so I "make light" of it and have to sleep in the next day.
In other words, John Henry is my prophet. |

Yeah yeah yeah, that much is obvious, sex. Purple robes = foreskin, blah blah. The mysterious part is the bleeding black horror. Any idea on what that is? |

He clearly and distinctly says "lanes," regardless of how much sense that makes. But what the hell do you mean you walk "in" lanes? That's absurd, you can walk on or in or near or through a lane, that preposition has absolutely no significance in this case. |

The song's pretty literal... After interceding to kill the lecherous father, the "protagonist" of the album proceeds to "do the deed" with the girl he stalked and was in love with... but he begins to hallucinate that he's Christ, and while engaging in the process of sadomasochistic fantasies, he kills her. He then decides that it was literally the spirit of Christ that possessed him.
My only question is whether the next two tracks (Lusting for Affection and The Last Fantasy of Christ) go along with the rest of the story. They seem to follow the same general plot, but in a somewhat asynchronous manner. Anybody have an opinion on that? |
