| Kevin Devine – Brother's Blood Lyrics | 15 years ago |
this song is so incredible. I don't know anything really specific about Kevin's family/history but judging from his songs it seems like he sings a lot about his brother and his influence on him. He sings a lot about his brother's anger, drug abuse, mistakes... like in you'll only end up joining them, he says "my brother michael he went one way, and at the fork i heard him say, don't you follow, don't go making my mistakes." It seems his brother and family in general has had a heavy influence on him. I think everyone has hereditary tendencies that we're not proud of or want to reject but still sometimes get the best of us. i like that he talks about his personal experience and simultaneously puts it into a much greater context of our society. kevin devine is such a powerful singer and writer. i love that he screams a good portion of this, pouring himself into every perfectly placed word. this song is chilling live. so fucking good. |

| Maritime – German Engineering Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i agree with what's already been said. in the first verse i think there's a strong reference to drugs/substance use: "And medicine makes us move inside a little slower And in those hours nobody knows our ends or beginnings" and it makes sense with the strangers theme, being in an altered state of mind could make friends seem like strangers. also, the german engineering industry is(was?) the top in the the world. so i think in a way they could be talking about losing all your preconceived ideas, knowledge, or what you've learned to discover the world for yourself. this song makes me really happy :) |

| The Mountain Goats – Broom People Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i love these lines "But down in your arms, in your arms I am a wild creature." because i can just imagine this kid going through his mundane shitty life, quite and reserved, and then with this person he's just alive and free. i can relate. |

| Castles – I'm Not For You Lyrics | 17 years ago |
this band is also called Good Old War. They weren't listed on here under that name though. I tried to figure out the lyrics the best i could, let me know if you find any mistakes. i don't normally submit lyrics, but these are all so good and i couldn't find them anywhere on the internet. i love these songs. |
| Kevin Devine – Your Husband Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i don't think it's about having an affair. he's talking about dreaming about them together. now you are a part of me, for as long as i sleep. i could trick myself into a trance, where were as firm as facts, and i don't give you back every morning the sun comes to shuttle you back to your man. the morning sun takes her because it wakes him up. it's possible that he's talking about a girl who likes him too but they can't be together because she's married, but i think he's just talking about someone he really likes but knows he doesn't have a chance. |

| Paul Baribeau – falling in love with your best friend Lyrics | 18 years ago |
i always wonder what song he's talking about, even though he himself doesn't know anymore. |
| Mirah – Jerusalem Lyrics | 18 years ago |
i agree with what's already been said for the most part, but i also think that generally she's just commenting on the state of the world. the human race has come so far but we're terrible to our planet and each other, we're digging our own grave. but more specifically, i'd probably agree with the isreal-palestine theory. |
| Kimya Dawson – Tire Swing Lyrics | 18 years ago |

| Okkervil River – Do What You Gotta Do Lyrics | 18 years ago |

| Maria Taylor – Nature Song Lyrics | 18 years ago |
this song's so beautiful and sad. i'd guess it's about the ending of a relationship, but i'm having a hard time decoding specific references in the song. |
| The Mountain Goats – No Children Lyrics | 18 years ago |
the song carries a tone of bitter triumph. you can't help but love every single word of it. |
| Kevin Devine – Ballgame Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| i just love how honest kevin is. that's a big strength, being able to be so self aware and honest with yourself. i think it's a big part of what we love about his music. | |
| Kevin Devine – No Time Flat Lyrics | 18 years ago |
i agree with whats already been said. and also i believe when i saw him he mentioned something about this song having to do with obama and cheney being 8th cousins. which fits right into the lyrics "So I’m not sure why I vote Cause I just don’t know what difference it makes It seems to me we get the same shit from them both" thank god someone's speaking up about that. i'm so sick of this two-sided bullshit. puppet on the right or puppet on the left? we seriously need a revolution. drastic change is the only thing that could save this country. that aside, kevin devine is siq. |

| Steel Train – Leave You Traveling Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| i definitely agree with you. there's a lot of very consistent themes throughout this album, 9/11 seemingly being one of them | |
| Steel Train – I Feel Weird Lyrics | 18 years ago |
hmm, i don't know much about jack's personal life, but when i first heard this i assumed it related to 9/11, with the obvious implications. maybe you're right, and he's just using that more metaphorically? but the theme of death is definitely apparent, with how he says '6 feet in the ground' and 'a million miles in the sky', like heaven or whatever. of course, when you break up with someone, it can feel like someone in your life has died, and a part of you died with them. so... i don't know, i guess. i saw them play for the second time just the other night..... so incredible. and jack's so sweet. |
| Steel Train – Dakota Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| ghaaaa, this song is so good, i can't believe no one has commented on it yet!! a lot of the new songs are really incredible. | |
| Paul Baribeau – Never Get To Know Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| paul baribeau is wonderful and definitely not an asshole, as suggested in this song. this song makes me sad. that's life though, i guess. | |
| Kimya Dawson – Loose Lips Lyrics | 18 years ago |
how can anything in a song be unnecessary? it's the expression of the writer, and also reflects the views of alotta people so i definitely wouldn't call it chilldish either. this song is wonderful, kimya is wonderful. |
| Youth Group – Rosie and the Sea Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I couldn't believe this song wasn't up... I guess it's not as well known, I think it was released on the UK version of Skeleton Jar? But this is definitely one of my favorites by Youth Group. I assume it's written from the perspective of someone else, namely 'Rosie'. Anyway, these lyrics are pretty much untracible, I couldnt find them anywhere online, so I did the best I could to decifer them. If anyone has any corrections, let me know! | |
| Youth Group – Skeleton Jar Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| by the way, i think grocks' theory is dead on. | |
| Youth Group – Skeleton Jar Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| oh, youth group. how i love you. | |
| Nick Drake – Place To Be Lyrics | 18 years ago |
hahah, i like different's term 'Maudlin'. though i don't know if this song really reflects those feelings for me, personally. this song is so sad and wonderful. i'm so in love with nick drake's music. it's amazing to me that he was so lonely, from what i know of him through his music and stories, he's exactly the kind of person i'd seek out. |
| Page France – Gowan's Red Balloon Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| this song is wonderful. i don't see why it didn't make the album in the first place, unless it came afterward? | |
| Eels – My Beloved Monster Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| love this song. | |
| Page France – Hat and Rabbit Lyrics | 18 years ago |
i can't believe no one's commented on a lotta these songs.... this song particularly is wonderful. i just got the 'swinger version'... ugh, so good. page france, the love of my life. |
| Page France – Orange Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| man, wish i could get my hands on this song.. the lyrics are quite wonderful, as are most page france lyrics. | |
| of Montreal – We Were Born the Mutants Again with Leafling Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| when i saw them at pitchfork fest in chicago last month, i realized how sexual so much of their music is, especially hissing fauna. they played a new song in which there were lyrics like 'you know i take it both ways' and 'i swing both ways'. i wish i could remember more exactly, but that was the gist of what i got, haha. just my two cents on the matter. i guess it doesn't make much of a difference, though his openness with sexuality i think definitely lends to the creativity, outrageousness and excitement of thier live shows. | |
