yes, kurt cobain does the same thing at the beginning of "tourettes". but i never really thought it had anything to do with the song. i assumed he tom was just alluding to/emulating one of his heroes. |

| wow. the book really has nothing to do with his schools. holden doesn't care about school, other than english, not even the fact that he flunked. Yes, the book is about wanting to hold onto childhood innocence, but when Holden realizes that he can't, he becomes depressed. He is fed up with all the bullshit and corruption that surrounds his everyday life and the people he meets, and this depression does lead to suicial thoughts. At one point, he flat out says he would have thrown himself out a window, but he realized that someone would have to clean up the mess...or something like that. so yeah. that's how holden fits into this song... | |

everone here seems to believe that this song is a kind of "atheist anthem", but i think it's far more agnostic. Thomas isn't actually denouncing religion, just the sanctimonious pricks that look down on those that don't worship in the same way as them. There are so many different religions and belief systems, and everyone claims that theirs is certainly the only correct choice, so in this song Thom is confused and wondering if ANY of it is real. He'd rather find the answers for himself, through his own experiences, rather than join any organized religion, and if not joining one means going to hell, he'll be there. also, it seems as if a friend of his has joined a religion and he's telling him that he dissapproves and is trying to change his mind based on what he's seen and experienced. "i owe you...i will not let go" "they twisted all your views...you came unglued" |

this song sounds like it is a reference to Kurt Cobain. the very first line sounds like a response to "It's better to burn out than to fade away.", which was a famous line used in his suicide note. "I feel so raped"- there is a nirvana song called "rape me", which is about how kurt feels overused and raped by the media. the whole song is probably based on the kurt cobain quote "the worst crime is faking it", which was also in his suicide note. |

love this song. the lyrics aren't great, but i relate to it more than any other Green Day song. i interpret it by meaning that you've liked someone for a while, and right when you think you've gotten over them, you fall for them all over again. It seems like more than just "infatuation", but you can't quite tell if they feel the same or not. so you spend all night turning over in bed wondering if the conversation you had with that person means that they're interested. but i could be wrong. :) my first comment. what do you think? |
