Nirvana – Rape Me Lyrics 18 years ago
electriclizard I like your interpretation A LOT but I would only add that the junkie in question is figuratively and/or literally getting raped by the dealer or whoever gives them the drugs.

Nirvana – Serve the Servants Lyrics 18 years ago
It's about the press and how they are "serving the servants" and so is he by talking to them. They're self-appointed judges who don't even make music themselves, they go on witchhunts and don't care about the consequences so long as they get paid (down payment). The divorce, the bones growing and all that is just the stupid shit he thinks they wanna hear. He doesn't hate them anymore because he's already thought about anything they could possibly ask so what difference does it make anymore. He considers himself wiser than they are basically.

Nirvana – Lithium Lyrics 18 years ago
Lithium is a treatment for bipolar disorder or mania. Bipolar is where you have huge mood swings between depression and mania (extreme euphoric state basically). This is the manic phase of that, where this person is looking at all the things that normally really depress him and feeling really fucking great about it, and he's sure he's not gonna crack but of course he will. The point of the song is nothing has changed only his state of mind.

Nirvana – Sappy Lyrics 18 years ago
The keys to this are the first line "If you save yourself" and the chorus "You're in a laundry room". The laundry room is a clue that what he's talking about is external, not something "you" are caught up in at this very moment. You're a woman realizing that saving yourself for marriage is fucking retarded.

Nirvana – All Apologies Lyrics 18 years ago
I always felt it was "All in all IT's we are". IT'S referring to "Married... Buried". That's all there is to life.

Nirvana – About a Girl Lyrics 18 years ago
The practicality of relationships is a recurring theme in Kobain's lyrics. He seems to unconsciously sabotage relationships just so he can feel good about himself when she breaks it off. Here, he refuses to pay for her love (get a job).

Nirvana – Aneurysm Lyrics 18 years ago
This is really reminiscent of old-school rock'n'roll and the whole "let's get together" feeling, but now there's some serious fucking drugs in the mix.

He sees that all these people, even his enemies, are suddenly fans and he's welcoming them... because he has a gun.

Nirvana – You Know You're Right Lyrics 18 years ago
To me this is about what he perceives to be her fantasy based on how she treats him, and this is him sardonically indulging that fantasy. This could be real but to me it's more about a statement of "This is what I'm GOING to do" since you seem to want it so badly.

Think of it in the context of an argument: She makes a point or issues an ultimatum and appears to just want to destroy him. This is his retort. Basically saying, yeah, you're right, and yeah, you can hurt me, but maybe you should care a little bit about other people sometimes you heartless bitch.

Ultimately my interpretation was he's saying women are too eager to run their men off just to prove they can and that's fucking stupid.

At the end I mean he wishes he could crawl inside her womb not "crawl inside himself".

Nirvana – Heart-Shaped Box Lyrics 18 years ago
I know this seems obvious but it's Penny Royal Tea II.

This is mostly about an abortion from both perspectives in a couple's relationship.

Verse 1 (Male perspective)
She gives him blank stares when she feels she can hurt him, knowing he will always feel guilty about this. She's been holding the "heart-shaped box" (coffin of their aborted child) over his head all week long, a guilt trip over something (irrelevant what brought this on, it was coming anyway). He was drawn into this trap (her vagina basically). He still loves her but everything is going to shit, all he can do is take what's left of her, which is cancerous.

Chorus (Mother's perspective)
"Hey! Wait!" might possibly be people trying to dissuade the mother from the abortion, but otherwise the entire chorus is the mother blaming the man for talking her into an abortion. She will never let it go and all her complaints will actually be about this for the rest of their days. The "forever in debt to your priceless advice" is probably sarcastic but means the practical reasons for the abortion were probably true in a sense but don't make it feel any better.

Verse 2
All about lost innocence and how love hurts, except...

"Throw down your umbilical noose so I can climb right back." Is I believe the male again saying he wishes he could fix this and just crawl inside himself even if it kills him [you could apply the same interpretation to the end of Verse 1/3 --he wishes he could "eat" meaning "cure" the cancer, or even just feel some of that pain and empathize (original lyrics were "I wish I could CATCH your cancer when you turn black")--but I like to have different meanings for each verse so I see it as him essentially leeching what's left of this shitty relationship].
