This song brings to mind part of a poem by Federico García Lorca that seems to be chasing the same thing: My heart of silk is filled with lights, with lost bells, with lilies and bees. I will go very far, farther than those hills, farther than the seas, close to the stars, to beg Christ the Lord to give back the soul I had of old, when I was a child, ripened with legends, with a feathered cap and a wooden sword I wonder is it a coincidence? |

I think ...said sadly is onto something about the subject of the song having an affair with the narrator and the narrator being in two minds about it "Well did he ever know, Will he ever know?" "So you won't make it easy on me" "Born on a desert floor, you've the deepest thirst, And you came to my sweet shore to indulge it" "I might just give the old dark side a try" "Did we even the score?" Maybe the subject's boyfriend has also been unfaithful "Well, I know there's an eventual release from every scale of crime" Hoping for a sort of mental statute of limitations to relieve his own guilt |
