This is a beautiful song. I agree with Ninji-X though, you cannot listen to this song and you have people around. They might give you the weirdest WTF look.. hahahha.. Anyway this song is obviously talking about a horse that was lost after a huge war. Within this horse, the knight's soul. It explains a conversation between the horse and the forest of unicorns as the forest asks the horse to stay in the forest were peace and happiness can be found.. |

| Opeth – The Moor Lyrics | 18 years ago |

Ok guys this is the REAL meaning.. The story first of all was taken from Shakespear's Othello.. The Moor. I will describe each paragraph for you guys =) "The sigh of summer upon my return Fifteen alike since I was here Bathed in deep fog, blurring my trail Snuffing the first morning rays" The song starts describing an "African" coming from a war.. They were called "The Moor" since they were black and the white people believed that black people were into Magic and Socery. "Weary from what might have been ages Still calm with my mind at peace Would I prosper or fall, drain the past The lapse of the moment took it's turn" He is describing the moment he had long time ago before the war and after the war.. "I was foul and tainted, devoid of faith Wearing my death-mask at birth The hands of God, decrepit and thin Cold caress and then nothing I was taken away from my plight A treason bestowed to the crowd Branded a jonah with fevered blood Ungodly freak, defiler" He describes the "Death Mask" as a black face that he was born with that everyone was against black people. For some reason, White people were always against black people in everything.. so he knew the "MASK" that he was born with would stay on his face and would not fix anything.. "Pale touch, writhing in the embers Damp mud burning in my eyes All the faces turned away And all would sneer at my demise" Describing the affects and signs on his face and eyes that he came back from war and did all this for one solid reason.. "Outcast with dogmas forged below Seared and beaten, banished from where I was born No mercy would help me on my way In the pouring rain nothing is the same" He still hates the fact that he is black cuz everyone thinks he would be like the other black people and they still think that he does the ACTIONS of Black people which are socery and Magic. "There is no forgiveness in these eyes For any of you but one Dispel the mist for now Melinda is the reason why I've come" He is not scared of anyone.. and not scared fof what they will do to him.. he only comes for his only love.. Melinda.. "She is waterdrops over the pyre A thistle in my hands Stained and torn, aged and brown Virtous shell with kindred innocense" Describing her as some sort of plant.. that is PURE but discovers that she does not love him anymore for a reason.. (Which you will know in the next upcoming songs..) "I awoke from the miasma Passing swiftly through the moor This is here, waters stir And in the distance all that was lost If you'll bear with me You'll fear of me You'd never leave me to A fate with you" Describing how he discovers the truth about Melinda not loving and not wanting him anymore.. Hope i was a good help guys.. and i give you a 100% on my explanation.. this is a story from Shakespear's Othello.. research it! ;) |
