when i listened to it in between the pitchbended guitars, it sounded just like "Don't Follow", only an octave higher, i guess, or in a different key. idk. seems how this comes before Dont Follow, i think this an instrumental prelude to the song. if you know what i mean, ones where they dont have a faded or abrupt ending. |

I think the upbeat instrumental section is trying 2 show how crazy everything is for him. that mixed with the hollow vocals and lyrics. i guess the instrument part gives an eerie sound and mood to the lyrics, as they are somewhat mild. i like that kind of drum and bass sound the song has. really cool! |

this is a song that made me calm down just the way the music sounds. all in the way it sounds makes me reminese. nice and slow is all i want to hear sometimes, and no other band grabs my ear quite like this song. I found out that when Jerry Cantrell was riding a bus one day, or sumthin like that, he overheard pre-teens 'bout 9, 10, and 11 yrs old talking on cellphones, obviosly the big, dorkier ones, dealing drugs to contacts. the first thing that popped up in his mind was "we die young". with drugs, comes gangs. duh. the second verse, "take another hit", is referring to drugs, as "then u got hit" means physically or being hit with a gunshot, most likely, a gun. "ya shoulda known better" is quite a good lesson, still commonly learned the hard way. musically, this song is the shit. my friend had never heard AIC before one day and i had him listen 2 this song and he thought it frikkin rock'd better than anything he heard. he has Facelift and Dirt on his iPod now. i luv Nirvana, but Cantrell's solo in the song can always be imitated, yet never duplicated. thats probably the last great solo of mainstream rock and heavy metal music. theres a video on myspace videoes that shows how he does that badass riff. its reall ez. i can do it! way underrated, damnit! Laynes voice just scares ppl. its a perfect grunge sound. i just luv! |

i went onto the site, wikipedia, and discovered that this talks about when Jerry Cantrell's view of mortallity. he says one day, we'll all end up as a pile of bones. he also says from the liner notes of the album, music bank, that when we r gone, whether we believe in afterlife or not, thats it. all memories, beautiful sites and things, expieriences, will all be gone. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Them_Bones
