To me the song seems like the perspective of someone who knows the end (either for them, or the world in general) is coming, and is reflecting on how hopeless everything (even the sun, which in a way gives life to the earth) is. The future is cold, so is the sun, everything's hopeless. |

First of all, this cover is better than the version by the specials, secondly Amy Winehouse has an amazing voice, you just don't know anything about good vocalists. As for the band not getting any credit, when has the band ever got credit when they're backing a self titled artist?
Take Jeff Buckley for example, he's an amazing vocalist, and everyone knows him, but no one could name a member of his band to save their lives, and why should they? He was the driving force behind the music, like Amy's the driving force behind her music.

How has no one commented on this song?! it's absolutely amazing, one of the best Katatonia songs.
Also, it's proof that new Katatonia isn't always as bland as most of the songs on GCD.
What I think of when I hear this song (isn't necessarily what it's about, but) is someone with a lot of friends at school, but the second school ends everyone they knew leaves, and they're no longer friends. Leaving the person wondering if any of them were friends in the first place.

Why should he devote the extra few minutes it'd take him to write something meaningful when people will buy into any catchy hook, beat, or chorus that comes out. It's not that artists like T-pain, Akon, Lil Jon, etc can't write meaningful songs, it's that they have absolutely no reason to when they can do a half-assed job and make just as much, if not more money than people who devote a lot of time to writing meaningful lyrics.

As I lay dying is one of the most generic piece of garbage bands ever. They're a copy of every other shitty metalcore band.
Atreyu may be mainstreamish (and quite shitty) but they have a catchy riff here or there, which is more than I can say about AILD.
