First of all I'd rate this song 10/10, it's perfectly perfect :) Well I think it's about the changes in her life, particularly the label and her job stuff. There are some lines I interpretate as ironic references to the stupid situation concerning the (brilliant but) censured lyrics of White Houses --> "I used to hover outside my truth. Always worry of what I'd lose". |

i think this song is about life in modern times and "smokers outside the hospital doors" are a metaphor to stressed / unhappy people (some people are happy when they smoke but the hospital gives me the idea of a sick atmosphere, so it's a sadness sign). The man/woman goes for a trip round the world to find out how it is, how life is and he/she rises and falls lots of time and so learn a lot and change his/her way on account of that. He/she ends up getting upset with what's seen because the world is a cruel and hard place to live and the adaptation to such different reality / the distance from the relatives makes her/him only believe these relatives are real if they can be heard. Summing up, i think the message is to show us the world we live un always ends up turning us into disappointed and nostalgic human beings. |
