I don't think that "Take ob-la-di ob-la-da" refers to a drug, I think it just means some absurd word that makes you feel happy, something like "Hakuna Matata" in the Lion King. |

For me, the song is about a very good friend, a best friend, and he ask him if he will keep by his side no matter what, in bad times ("if I go crazy") and in good times ("If I'm alive and well"). That's why his friend it's like his "Kryptonite", it's his weak point, the only one that can make understand him. He starts so think what's wrong with his life ("I took a walk around the world to ease my troubled mind") and he realizes that it doesn't matter as long as he has his friend. |
