Tracy Chapman – Fast Car Lyrics 16 years ago
I have been totally in love with this song for such a long time. To me the basic is pretty out there, a girl had fallen in love with a boy and in the end its just not enough. I feel like this girl was trying to escape her life. Be it good or bad she wasn't happy. She meet a boy, with a fast car and she feel in love with him...

I think one of the best parts of this song is the very begning,

"She got out of town
On a railway New York bound
Took all except my name"

I love this part, its like he is saying look she took everything with her, all of me, but not my name. I see a small town where a boy and a girl grew up in love and he is saying stay with me, be with me forever. Instead she leaves, taking his heart, his dreams, his love.

I also really like the part where he says,

"I got a hole in me now,
I got a scar I can talk about."

its like he is showing how real it is to him and how much he is willing to share about his feelings.

The Wallflowers – One Headlight Lyrics 17 years ago
My interpertation of this song is not so much thats its about a literal death, but rather the death of something deeper, the persons soul is dead, but their body is still part of this earth.

I have kinda fetl for a while like this song could represent a man who is in prison. Time moves differently in that setting so he can't remember when exactly he lost her, he only knows he has. Also, many times people fear their lovers will not be faithful to them while they are in prison, so others are telling him he has, "lost his only friend" they say there is no way she would stay faithful because he broke here heart by going to prison. I feel that the imagrey of a cemetary and a funeral are representations of the prison and his time there. Most prisons are set back in the woods, away from people. So listening through the cemetray trees could be like he is trying to be a part of the world he has lost, while search through that distance for her. A funeral at dawn could also be the fact that while he is still alive, he will never leave prison, so his life in that sense has ended.

When he says it always seemed such a waste, she always had a pretty face. I wondered why she hung around this place, he is realizing how much better she deserved. He now feels like she could have had someone so much better than him and he doesnt understand how she never saw that, or why she stayed with him for sometime even after he was locked up.

I think the second verus is showing her life without him. She is now facing the world alone, and a lot of prejudic because of the man she loves. She sees the world as an ugly, dark, cold palce becasue she no longer has hope. She knows he will never come home and that kills her. She tries to run away, to abandon her life and start again. But its only in her head, she isn't really strong enough to leave. So when it says she hit the edge -its just her window ledge. I think its showing how trapped she is. She can't even make herself leave.

I think by the last versus much time has past. His life and confinment, as well as hers have become old and dulled out. They have been doing this for a while and its still the same. There is no more forward progrssion in their lives.

He is alone, but he feels like someone else. He has resigned himself to his placement and the life he now leads, but at times he doesnt feel like this man, he feels like he was. Like he is the same person he was before all this happend, not what peolpe see him as now. That goes into the next line as well. He dosen't feel he is different but he knows he is not the same man he was before he came to prison.

The finial lines represent their distance. Somewhere between the "walls" of his city and his dreams she is dieing. She can't do it anymore. Her whole life has been wasted loving a man she will never again fully have and the pain he has put her through kills him because he knows all of her pain is his fault.

Again, this is just how I see it...not saying its the real meaning.

I love when he says I wish I could be like all my heros, I wish I could be like all yours too....

I think this is great. Not only is he saying he wants to achieve all his hopes and dreams, but he is saying he wants to be everything for her, all she had never hoped or dreamed about

Alexi Murdoch – Orange Sky Lyrics 17 years ago
I am so in love with this song. I think it has one of the most amazing lines ever : "My salvation lies in your love." This has such a deep meaning. To say to another person that your salvation, your redemption, is all based upon them is so powerful, but also from the spiritual side, salvation would like in Gods love. I also really like the part where he says. :"I said brother, you know you know
It's a long road we've been walking on
Brother you know it is, you know it is
Such a long road we've been walking on"

I think this is so representative of a person who has lived a long hard life. He has probabaly made a lot of mistakes and let a lot of people down.

I can see a person who is in prison, because of the way he talks about dreaming of standing side by side with his brother and sister (something that could not happen if he is incarcerated) The orange syk can also represent being there with them when the day is done, when he is free.

He tells her his heart has been broken, because his life is gone, his hopes and dreams will now likily never become relized but her love for him helps him to hold on to that last glimer of hope.

I think the ends really shows it too. When he says: "When I am alone
When I've thrown off the weight of this crazy stone
When I've lost all care for the things I own
That's when I miss you, that's when I miss you, that's when I miss you
You who are my home"

Daily he has to survive, get by, life the prison life. But at night, alone, he can stop and miss them. He doesn't have to worry for those few moments and he can think about them, and dream of his life back with them. That is his home, not the walls and fences that hold him in.

i really like this song...it so powerful

i have your face in a photo in high school
when you were alive
but that's all I have
and I can't remember who I was myself then

to me that says so much, like its saying that they had this person they loved but now all thats left is this photo and they person is gone and so is the person they used to be..

Faith No More – Take This Bottle Lyrics 18 years ago
This song reminds me of a guy whos made a million promises to the girl in his life. Time after time he told her it would be better or different and it never was. He is a horrible guy, he knows and admitts he isnt good to her. Hes been trying to change but it hasnt really happened in their lives so far. So one day he realized she loves him more than anything and she is not going to leave. She has put up with his lines and lies for this long, she is a good girl and she is sticking with him. But he cares about her to much to keep putting her through this so he tells her to leave. He admitts he hoped it would be better but knows it wont so he tells her to just leave him and that one day, in a better place he will love her like he should have all a long. When he says take this bottle, i dont think its realy him giving up on drinking to me he is saying just take all the lies and lines i fed you bc of my addiction and walk away, he isnt tell her to take them but to walk away...

Bad Company – Shooting Star Lyrics 18 years ago
To me it doesnt really matter who the song is about, even if there is one artisit it was written for, who cares. Songs mean so many different things to so many different people, just love this song for what it is an forget the rest.

I personaly love the line that says, "Watching the world go by, surprised it goes so fast."

Its like when he was young and dreaming of being a big rock star life seemed so slow, he was working toward this constant dream and then when it was achieved he no longer had anything to work for. Also it would seem it wasnt all that he thought it would be and now life is just passing him by and he isnt really living it, as the end says.. "Johnny's life passed him by like a warm summer's day"

The Wallflowers – Up From Under Lyrics 18 years ago
I think this song is absoultely amazing. I love the way his lyrics speak beyond just simple words, they display such beauty. I love the part that says, "I told my mother I'd always write Headed west for the coast With the big city lights Now Mama I'm so sorry I'd forgotten." I love this bc i feel like its such a representation of life. He loved his home but moved on, to a place that was so much bigger than him and in many ways its crushing him and he is losing the thigns he loved to begin with...
Again... Amazing song!
