This song is amazing, i first heared their version of my sharona, and got the cd as more or less, a joke, and now taht i have listen to it several hundred times, i am ashamed of my previous views, this whole album is amazing, and surprisingly deep, this song i believe is about isolation, adn not ahving anything around you to judge, or for you to judge, but then again i may retarded. |

well i think this osng is about how dictators ruled Europe for so long, and they all had this "take over the world" view. And this is how they are fighting in the eyes of the people, but they are ruling together really, kind of like we all think the gas companies are doing "haha shell lets see, if you sell your gas for 3.50 a gallon, and i'll sell mine for 3.45 at Exxon, then next week we'll both go up to 3.60! muahaha, lets go check on the microwave pizza!"

The Clash are such amazing people, their lyrics are very well written, which is very evident on this song, im not going to explain all of it, because people like "Tsk8rKFF" and others summed it up very well.
The clash is one punk band that i have enormous respect for, becasue they had that whole punk apmospher, but with this educated twist that i find brilliant. I'm a punk, but any punk has to admit alot of the genre's lyrics aren't the deepest, but these guys, have like, the whole "one of the first punk bands to make it" vibe, and they have bands like Tool's symballistic lyrics that makes them amazing. |

i personally don't see why people would think this band is a religious band, i think they are moking christianity, most of there songs say something about god or jesus, but in a sarcastic manner. haha, this song reminds me alot of the book "Johnny Got His Gun"
diffrent johnny, but it was about this guy who is this good kid, lady friend, family ect. ect. but then there is a draft and sent to war. The whole book is his thoughts, because thats all he can do now, he got him by some sort of bomb, and he lost both legs, arms, he is parrilied to, he got the whole bottom of his face blown off, so he is blind deaf and dumb. It is honestly perhaps one of thee greatest books ever. |

also if you watch Ren and Stimpy, there is this episode that relates to this topic, some jerk was trying to sell "salve" that did everything you ever needed, and he suckered in stimpy in buying it, jackass. |
