I agree, camm. :D This is a great song. I looked The Morning Light up on Wikipeida (All hail.) and Harrison explains that this song is about wanting something you'll never be able to obtain, or something like that. I remember the first time I listened to the song I was like, 'Whaaa?' I'd been a fan of Socratic for a while and I downloaded it and I was kinda lost. I didn't relate at all until like three weeks ago, when I was ticked at someone. To me, this song is like an angry, bitter Duane telling about his situation and how ticked off he is by giving examples. (The paychecks, you need me though I'm an asshole, the sun won't be free someday, insomnia, he misses simpler times, etc.) He tries to maintain an optimistic view that comes out more as sarcasm. (She needs him, but he's an asshole, everything's beautiful but extremely hard to gain, etc.) But the last stanza he's all, 'Well, I guess I'll deal and get over this sooner or later. So I'll take it and learn and bear because I know that this probably won't be the last time I feel this down. La la la.' I agree with annematronical. :D |

The vibe this song gives me is that this is a friend telling another to let their girlfriend go. For personal benefit, or for their own good? You be the judge. She/he might be trying to convey to said friend in relationship that he's living in a fantasy world; that his picture of what his girlfriend is isn't but fantasy, or a character he came up with. So, as the 'author' of this fantasy book relationship of his, he should kiil the girlfriend and end the story. Yup. =] |

Who doesn't like The Ropes?! I'm shocked nobody has commented on their songs by now. I believe this song is the old fashioned 'I'm getting over you by listening to one album over and over again until I forget what we were and how much I cared'. Nothing too hard to decipher, nothing mysterious or hidden. Short and sweet to the point. =] |
