Mumford & Sons – Broken Crown Lyrics 11 years ago
I think "Broken Crown" refers to his significant other's values in regards to love, as in they are tainted or not pure. Initially he fell in love with her, but he came to realize that she was a morally flawed person. She had wronged someone before him (I will not speak of your sin, there was a way out for him), and although she falls deeply in love with him and wants to be with him, he learns that he can never trust her or truly love her as the relationship goes on (The mirror shows not, your values are all shot). Still, the physical relationship (the pull on my flesh was much too strong) and his own vulnerability (my heart was flawed, I knew my weakness) kept him involved with her. Now, he is deeply involved with her (I took the road, and I fucked it all the way), and in a dark place with her and is expressing his anger and desire to be free from her, telling her he will "never wear your broken crown," or that he will never be hers, because he will always see her love as flawed and untrustworthy (I'll never be your chosen one).

I think "I have that shot that stops my clock, baby it's okay" is referring to the line earlier in the song "Just a number always counting down to a new start." As in, she could stop the counting down and be with one person rather than always finding someone new.

Also, I agree with the phonebooth reference being to Futures cover, as a lot of songs on Futures seem somewhat similar to this one (Pain, Polaris, Kill, ect...lots of relation to post-relationship issues). Also, I for some reason the line "I'm still walking" reminds me of the line in the song 23 "I'm still driving away, and I'm sorry every day." Also could be related to Kill..."I just can't walk away." I dunno, I could be stretching here, but thats just what comes to mind.

Jimmy Eat World – Chase This Light Lyrics 18 years ago
I think this song is about getting past depression and moving on to a new phase in life. Seems to relate to getting over a former relationship and finding a new one, and the feeling that comes with that. Gesso does fit, because it connects with the idea of being able to "scuplt" the new phase in life.

I think this is my second favorite song off the album. I really like the new CD after a few listens, although I will agree that it is not as good as Futures.

The Killers – Read My Mind Lyrics 18 years ago
I agree with others that have said this song is about getting out of a relationship with someone. It seems like he is really struggling with what to feel about the breakup, and whether or not he really wanted to end it...and is asking "before you go, can you read my mind?," or tell him what he really wants -"tell me what you find,
when you read my mind." He wants to know if he really should move on. I really like the line "its funny how you just break down, waiting on some sign"...he wants her to give him something that makes what she wants clear. I think all the random references are kinda showing the both sides of it in his head, moving on with his life ("a world unseen, a city wall, and a trampoline") vs. going back to "the good old days" with her ("the teenage queen," "the chosen one.") I think really he wants to get back together with her ("woman, open the door, don't let it sting, I wanna breathe that fire again"), but he knows its time to move on with life.

I also really like "Slippin in my faith until I fall, He never returned that call." Someone said "He" didn't make sense...but to me this really seems like a religious reference. I think he is saying he tried turning to his faith to help him through it, but found nothing there.

Could just be my personal experiences talking...but thats what i get from it. Defintely my favorite song from the new album.
