I'm 99% sure its a live version, and at the beggining he says something that sounds slightly like "Turn the fallback on, please" which would make sense since it's live, just curious cause he says it so melodically, could easily be part of the song. | |

Definitely about the divide between people, everyone is very detached in society, and I find building relationships has been replaced for hostility and angry glaring. Have you ever sat on a subway and tried to make eye contact with someone? It's hilarious. In any event, this is my absolute favorite Joy Division song, so beautifully haunting. |

I agree with CandyG, but even if you listen to the song, when he sings, it sounds a little bit triumphant over her. Only very subtly, but he doesn't sound upset in the least, yeah? This song is rather self explanatory, though, but incredible nonetheless. :) |

Avoiding death? No way. What I got from this, even the way he's singing it, he's ready to die. It sounds to me like he's only just going through empty motions right now, waiting for the right time to kill himself. And this one girl who he once loved is making it really hard for him, because she's the only thing that's standing between him and suicide. And when it comes to that, he can't decide which he wants more. |

It's not "noonday" it's "new day". And I have to agree with the aforementioned, the song seems to just be a yearning for something further than just the physical aspect of a relationship. Absolutely phenomenal song. |
