| Rise Against – Savior Lyrics | 14 years ago |

I'll tell you what this song means to me. It's about a relationship, between a very religious girl and this boy. They are having troubles, and he thinks they might break up soon: 'And there is no time like the present to drink these draining seconds' He does not behave the way she wants him to, he does not care about her religion-inspired version of right and wrong, good and bad and she is disappointed in him because of that: 'But seldom do these words ring true when I'm constantly failing you;' This confuses him, because he perceives the whole religion thing as merely something that is a wall/barrier in her head, and he is only now starting to grasp howmuch of an influence it actually has on her actions and judgements and he feels powerless because his reason and logic cannot change her and because of this somehow wishes to end the relationship: 'Like walls that we just can't break through until we disappear' She wants him to convert and behave according to her religious standards. She has told him that he will go to hell if he doesn't, and he has asked her why, and if this means that she hates him: 'That's when she said, "I don't hate you boy I just want to save you while there's still something left to save"' While very strong in her convictions about the supernatural and what's right and wrong, she does love him, and is insecure about her sexuality because of this, its her natural urges fighting with her convictions so to speak. He knows about these insecurities but does not believe that he can help her and that the problem lies with her convictions : 'That's when I told her, "I love you girl But I'm not the answer for the questions that you still have"' After all, he is sad that apparently it cannot be love the way he wants it: 'So tell me now If this ain't love then how do we get out? 'Cause I don't know' The song title is self-explanatory, she wants to be his savior, but he does not want nor need it. I'm aware this doesn't explain all of the lyrics but hey, it suffices for me. - Sok. I'm not sure about the intro though. |

I think this song is about people who try to impede the development, enjoyment and happiness of others. They are metaphorical walls, something that seems quite clear from the first few lines. For me personally, it's about religion. Religion tries to convince people to be happy in ignorance about the world, whereas there is so much beauty and greatness to be find outside the 'walls' of dogma. Incidentially, this is a great song (and album!) to listen to while snowboarding :D |

I believe it's about the cold war, with soldiers on both ends of the iron curtain (different worlds!). While being very different, they are 'still brothers in arms' in the sense that they fight for what they believe in. |
