Robert Smith; "The song is about hyperventilating—kissing and fainting to the floor." The "Show me how you do that trick" line works on two levels. First being a personal memory of his - he used to do magic tricks when he was a child - and the second being a trick of seduction. I suppose you can view the latter in which ever way you like. |

Very similar both musically and lyrically to Boredom by the Buzzcocks, but most obviously in the verse when he references the song directly. Here is the chorus from the Buzzcocks: "You know me - I'm acting dumb you know the scene - very humdrum boredom - boredom" I think that's quite self explanatory. I also think they did a rather good job with it; quite often when bands make references to their influences in song it doesn't come off too well but it worked here. The way Edwyn Collins sings it in comparison to Howard Devoto(?) from Buzzcocks adds quite a degree of ambiguity. |

The line "Transports of invalids" relates to the German 'invalidentransporte', a term used by the nazis in world war II. It refers to the registering of all prisoners of German concentration camps who were too sick to do any more work. They were taken at night to hartheim castle and gassed. A very very sinister song. |

It's about shinty is it not? Maybe a big match or something. Clash of the ash refers to the sticks as they have to be made from ash, I think... It's a pretty good song, and you can see Rory's voice has really matured. Excellent :) |

| Love this; it's my favourite song from Searchlight. | |
| Manic Street Preachers – Empty Souls Lyrics | 18 years ago |

This, along with The Love of Richard Nixon is my favourite song from Lifeblood I also agree that it is a pretty underrated album, but I guess maybe some people just couldn't connect with it. It's pretty different, if that makes sense. |

Correct me if I'm wrong [which, let's face it, I probably am] but isn't MHS just a name Colin MacIntyre called himself, and not actually a band? Anyway. Ace song. |

| The Damned – Grimly Fiendish Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I love this song, I have to say I think it's one of my favourite Damned songs, but I'm not as keen on the "bad trip mix" or whatever it's called. Something of that nature anyway. | |
| Manic Street Preachers – Rendition Lyrics | 18 years ago |

Ah i see what you mean about the guitars, they are really similar... I dont know how you noticed though Anyway, the song's pretty much about the idea that places are "invented" by the CIA or whatever, where law doesn't seem to exist, places that are "above the law", like Guantanamo Bay for instance. I really love this song, it's really remenicant of the Generation Terrorists stuff |
