My interpretation. I hope it helps: He imagines and reflects on his death and becomes totally aware of the fact that he will never be able to return ("I'm going away forever") - at least not in this human form with his personality etc ("Never coming back this way"). The verse around the line "What I need is a heaven" depicts his longing for salvation. "Dreaming my life away counts for nothing" is this urge in him that makes him want to awaken from illusion. He then sees that death doesn't mean a total end, but rather is just a dropping of this human body ("But nothing ever is the end"). In the end he can accept and be content with the way he has lived his life ("It's sure been a full life for me"). |

I totally love this song and especially its outro. It perfectly fits as an ending to the whole album (especially CD Mars). I agree that it has to be "The kind that you find when you mind your own business" and not "mysteries" in the outro poem. And it's also "This Martian ends her mission" and not "The Martian ends her mission" in the fourth verse, third line. I think these lines "Lots of love just keep it comin' Making something out of nothin'" say that Flea should continue as before and create beautiful music with his love (he has the word "love" tattooed on his fingertips). These lines "These are the best that I I don't know how to say Losin' what I love today" represent the speechlessness, when somebody you love fades away...this total confusion in your mind. Everythings I wrote represents my humble opinion. |
