Hidden in Plain View – Garden Statement Lyrics 18 years ago
"And it's sadder than the saddest movie
I ever saw but without the beauty"

Amazing line, pretty much sums up the feeling of true sadness better than any line from any song I can think of.

As for the meaning, I just feel it has a lot to do with growing up and all the things you experience and feel through the good times and the bad.

Chiodos – If I Cut My Hair, Hawaii Will Sink Lyrics 18 years ago
alixo15 sort of touched on what I was going to say, about the whole sex thing. I think this song is about a first time committing the deed. To me, the meaning of the song is similar to Sic Transit Gloria by Brand New. The speaker in this song is so incredibly awed by this girl that when things get heated between them he succumbs to temptation for the first time. Now my theory is that this girl is either not a virgin or doesn't care as deeply about the speaker as he cares about her. So she says thinks like I love you in the heat of the moment just to get things going (you simply say it because you like the way that it sounds).

Then I think it ends up turning into a routine event for them. The speaker begins to find out that the girl is only after the physical aspect of the relationship and doesn't feel as strongly as he does. He wants to just get away from her because it's tearing him apart, but the physical attraction keeps pulling him back in and he can't fight it (I feel weak, thrown in wide open spaces, etc...)

Oh, and one last thing, I think the "Sell it to me" part is the speaker cynically pointing out that he knows she's only pretending to care about him and putting on an act so she can still benefit from the physical part of their relationship.

That's my take on it. By the way, if people think it's so self explanitory, why not enlighten everyone as to your interpretation? This site was created so people could share their interpretations of songs, not so people could say, "Hey, I know what this song means. Figure it out for yourself."

I didn't say that to step on any toes, but I think it's more interesting when people share their thoughts, even if you think it's obvious what it means.

Good song. Peace.

Northstar – Taker Not A Giver Lyrics 18 years ago
I can see how people interpret this song as being about suicide with the "I was loaded and the hammer was ready" part, but I don't think that's it. I agree with what a couple of people have said. This song is about a relationship that has no reason for existing anymore. However, neither person in the relationship is willing to be the one to step forward and end it. It seems like the speaker intends to call it off every time he sees the girl, but something about her makes him shy away from it. But finally, by the end of the song the speaker is sick of not having any control so he stands up for himself and tells the girl that it's over.

Beautiful song, and easy to relate to. Well, for me at least. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has ever been in a relationship that really needs to end but for some reason you're afraid to end it cause you don't want to be alone, or you're afraid that you won't know what to do with yourself without that person around anymore. Nick is brilliant.

By the way can anyone else see the similarities between this song and Taking Back Sunday's "Head Club"?

TBS:
"I'm sick of writing every song about you"

Chiodos:
"Name the last time I wrote about something other than you"

However, the difference is that the speaker in the tbs song just wants to be done with the relationship:

"Don't call my name out your window, I'm leaving"

Whereas the speaker in this song wants the relationship to pick up again and keep trying:

"I'll keep dreaming
We have to be someday"

I don't know, I just thought it was interesting that the speaker is basically at the crossroads in both songs, but each takes a different direction from there.

Northstar – Between Horns and Halos Lyrics 18 years ago
I think there should be no question that this song is about the speaker taking a girl's virginity, and I think he feels at least a littl sorry for it.

"Just a flower with a broken back"

He feels like he has broken her beautiful spirit by doing the deed with her.

"She's giving beat stares from being beat all day"

He can see the look of guilt on her face, and it makes him feel guilty too.

"This jezebel is bleeding from a place
That can never ever be replaced"

This is the part that makes the whole scene obvious. The girl has committed the act for the first time and she is experiencing the physical ramifications.

Beautiful song because I think Northstar really depicts the first time how it is for a lot of people... it's pleasing, but at the same time it's awkward, confusing, and a little scary. Northstar had amazing talent when it came to lyrics. Too bad they broke up.

I've been off and on with this girl that I'm crazy about for a while now and this song reminds me a lot of my situation. She keeps saying she can see all these signs that mean we're supposed to be together forever and she is torn apart every time we aren't talking, but she holds back from committing and admits she doesn't know why.

This reminds me of the line:
"If you believed what you felt you would be in love."

I think the speaker (Craig I'm assuming) is saying the girl needs to just get over herself and all her excuses and trust her feelings.

In the line:
"Our chance to make things right."

I believe the speaker is saying that they've made some mistakes in handling the relationship but he knows they have one more shot so they need to do what they can to make it last this time. Sounds familiar to me..

The whole chorus makes me think the speaker is saying that he might not always be able to live up to expectations, but he is doing his best and he is the best thing that has ever happened to her so she needs to just let go of her reasons for not loving him and just let things happen.

This song seriously almost makes me cry every time I hear it cause it seems like Craig wrote it about my life...

Simply beautiful, and amazing live!

Brand New – Good to Know That If I Ever Need Attention All I Have to Do Is Die Lyrics 18 years ago
I don't know if this makes sense to anyone else but I sometimes like to think that this song is Brand New's statement to musicians that music is all the same and artists aren't original anymore... Hear me out here...

The title of the album is Deja Entendu which happens to mean already heard because apparently Jesse Lacey gets annoyed hearing the same old break up songs all the time and what not. In this song there are a couple of lines that make me think he is sharing this message. For example, "keep us comatose but audible" makes me think that Jesse is saying there is still a lot of music being heard out there (audible) but the art is dead (comatose). Then "once heard, always heard" sounds like a reference to the album title to me. Oh, and the first line "am I correct to defend the fist that holds this pen" kinda sounds like Jesse defending his work as the only original art still out there.

I know this opinion is a little different from what others have said but I think it's interesting to consider.
