I've always taken the "spreading out the blankets on the each" in this song and also First Day Of My Life as a sign of it being sunny and relaxing which is a metaphor for how he feels. It could reflect how he thought this situation would feel worse but now that it's happened it's not as bad as he thought (the weatherman's a liar, he said it'd be raining). Maybe now that he doesn't let himself become emotionally involved with anyone he can detach himself from any feelings that might cause him stress or unhappiness. "It's clear and blue as far as I can see" means he isn't worried about being hurt in the future, because he won't let that happen. |

I may be wrong, but I'm fairly sure Dave Grohl wrote it. It just amuses me how everyone is like "Kurt wrote this song because he was depressed and disillusioned with life", about EVERY song. He was a fuck-up, that's why I love him. He was so sure he was the coolest thing ever that it gave him this mad confidence. Kurt rules. |

I love this song. Anyone who has just listened to it should go on youtube and see it performed live. Seriously, it'll bring it to a whole new level.
"I don't hardly know you", I think, means she doesn't know him very long or very well but she knows enough to know how to make him smile. Some people can do that. It seems to have sexual implications too - I know a way to make you smile.
Alison Krauss didn't actually write it, I forget who did, but it's the same guy who wrote "The Lucky One".
Her band are amazing. Jerry Douglas and Dan Tyminski kick ass. So talented. |
