| The Decemberists – Cocoon Lyrics | 17 years ago |

Pompeii is what I see in the song. I think it's about the cities discovery. The people wait encased in their ashen "Cocoons" until they are discovered and their "sleeping hours are through". I think it's also about the uncertainty of the future. Pompeii was a thriving urban center, and one day it was simply snuffed out. This also explains the part about following lines on a hand. Palmestry is a kind of fortune telling. Supposedly by looking at the length and path of the lines on a palm you can tell a persons future. there's a lot more too it, but this all seems to fit to me. |

| At the Drive-In – Pattern Against User Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Heroin. When I listen to this song I'm immediately reminded of the mindset of the movie "Train Spotting". People looking out at the world critically from a subculture. Drugs and partying take the weight out of living, but if you don't take life seriously then you'll be stuck, and in serious shit. It's all about the double edged sword. |

| Blind Melon – Wishing Well Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
basically, I've got your back. more importantly though, this song means blind melon is back. i saw them the other night prior to getting the new album, and they played a bunch of their new stuff. All of it was excellent (the first three cuts on For My Friends). Rarely do I hear a band say 'we're going to play something new' and get excited. Everyone wants the old favorites, but everyone immediately got excited for bm's new material. Excellent job boys |

| Arctic Monkeys – Balaclava Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| A Balaclava is a kind of face mask (holes for eyes and mouth) often worn by cliche street thugs. The song appears to be about crooks of some sort, and a crime unfolding whether its a legal or moral thing, I don't know. The mask provides anonymity and protection, whether it's a literal mask or maybe just the behavior of a boy trying to look tough. | |
| The Mars Volta – Day Of The Baphomets Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Baphomet is a french corruption of Muhammad (baphomet - mohamet - muhammad) What we know as baphomet first appeared after the crusades in the practices of the knights templar. It appears as a sabatical goat and has become a bit of an anti christ figure due to its use by Alesteir Crowley and groups like the freemasons. | |
