yeah i agree with leaving the past behind you, and mabey to cut the ralationship between past and future (i´m sorry for my bad english), so you can have new future where it doesn´t matter who you were and what you´ve done... so to separate the past, the future and maybe even the present... however, i love this song! one of my favourite songs of the new record, but the whole album rocks!! |

i think this song has got more than one meaning. surely, it goes about the relationship with a girl, but it´s also about life and what matters (i want something good to die for) and searching for a sense of life, maybe. but however, this song is really great. the whole record is great!! you have to love it!! |

yeah it´s about kurt cobain, and i think the chorus is about that picture from kurt when he was found in his garage. it shows him with spread legs on the floor, blood everywhere.

but i don´t think the chili peppers wanted to take the intro from mary jane´s last dance, in the music business it´s possible to sound almost the same without copy a song... however, this song is really, really sad and really really great. i´ve seen the video-wow!!! and i think everyone should take the meaning he wants out of this song, and i don´t think it´s about drugs. of course, drugs are a part pf tom petty´s life, but in my opinion this song is only about that girl mary jane, who died (i think suicide or?) and the reaction of the boy who loves her. the rest of the story is described in the lyrics and in the video, i think. |

hm... good idea! i think he doesn´t know where she is, so he doesn´t know if she´s dead or alive. but he loves her so much that he can´t imagine life without her and so he´s waiting for her all the time.
well i like the idea of aug that the whole album is about a boy/man thinking about a girl and what she´d done to him. but i think it´s also about fairytales (josh homme loves the brothers grimm), e.g. burn the witch or someone´s in the wolf. watch the videos!! |

i disagree to the husband... i think brandy loves a sailor, and he loves her too, but he can´t give up the sea, because he loves the sea too. to be sailor is very dangerous and he lives on a ship for weeks and months and brandy misses him very much, but she can´t marry him because she´d be alone for a long time and she can´t know if her sailor is alive or not, and so they haven´t got a real chance for a future and a family together. he´s got the decision: a family with brandy or the sea. i think he choose the sea: but my wife my lover my lady is the sea. very sad, but great song and story!! |

in my opinion this song is about the loss of hillel slovek who died in 1989 because of drugs. he played the guitar and was one of anthony´s best friends. i think anthony describes a life near death, but he wants to stop this fading away: how long will slide, so he wants to die: slit my throat, and to be dead: take me on the otherside. he wants life or death, but he doesn´t want to fade away between these sides: i separate my side.
surely, this song is about drugs too, but i think it´s about death, loss and life after you have lost somebody. i can recommend the book: the red hot chili peppers - give it away. it´s about the stories to their songs and it´s a kind of biography too. read it!! |
