i have always loved this song.. beautiful sad lyrics, more upbeat and light musically than some of their other songs. i think it talks about man's longing, literally. the lack fulfillment we feel at times as men, going about our modern lives, in concrete landscape , working inside, out of harmony with nature, living in fear, weakness, going on but not fulfilled. "no reason for wakening". "lost paradise". a metaphor of a mans life as a river that flows "dark and troubled to an oily sea, A grim intimation of what is to be" |

| Pink Floyd – Mother Lyrics | 1 year ago |
| @[regb:50057] thanks for that. i always thought this was a passive aggressive song, and i always felt a deep resentment of mother being spoken in this song. however i never quite got the final line as referring to the wall being high, that makes perfect sense. i always heard it as literal, did the song need to be so high (in octave or notes). | |

wow, sometimes you come to this site and realize you may have been completely wrong about the meaning of a song you've know for a long time. i have always thought this song was a song about sex. role-playing. paying for someone to treat you like sh**, or the other way round. it seems so full of sexual energy, depravity, sex references. most likely it is written about people who love money, but this is how i always saw it. starting out with the "got money, ....." lines, it sounds like paying for some sort of experience. Got money I'll do anything for you. Got money just tell me what you want me to. Got money nail me up against the wall. Got money don't want everything he wants it all. is it "got money" or "god money"?? i could make a long list of other lines, they almost all seem to have domination themes. and of course there's the obvious "head like a hole" which sounds like oral sex. in no order: i'd rather die than give you control you're going to get what you deserve bow down before the one you serve black as your soul (depravity) |

| Beastie Boys – No Sleep 'til Brooklyn Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| imho, you couldn't be more wrong. their discography proves they are some of the greatest ever. some of the less popular albums if listen to often, are really, really, really good. there are so many subtle lines dropped in all their songs that the replay value never goes away. | |
| Beastie Boys – No Sleep 'til Brooklyn Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| how did you miss that, lol. i remember driving around listening to license to ill, so many times the cassette tape wore out, and that line always stuck out to me. mike D is the best :D | |
| Nirvana – Heart-Shaped Box Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| if you've ever been with a woman who makes you miserable, you can understand that he may be talking about her vagina. it fits perfectly to me. the drug of seduction, from a woman you hate for what she's doing to you. | |

| *become a BITTER old man* | |
| Pink Floyd – Dogs Lyrics | 12 years ago |

i believe that Pink Floyd is talking about futility of the capitalist model for success. it's talking about honing your skills of being heartless and cruel until you trust no one and when you've finally reached the pinnacle of your power and success in your life, you "head down south" to become a ietter old man, and die of cancer. maybe i'm over simplifying it, but the line about 'not losing the weight you used to throw around,' means that in your old age you can't remember how to enjoy life any more. just my impressions, the first time i've read the lyrics |

| Courtney Love was on the Howard Stern show the other day and stated that "Heart Shaped Box" refers to her vagina. it makes sense in many ways, so why not? it seems like the song is refering to a woman who drags you down, and makes you feel bad. sounds like Courtney, lol. | |
| Urge Overkill – Sister Havana Lyrics | 13 years ago |
| i really liked this song, and never really knew what it was about because i couldn't understand the lyrics. heard it today on sirius lithium channel, so i looked it up, and as stated, it still kicks ass many years later. very catch riffs. really a great song. | |
| Willow – Whip My Hair Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| asking what this song is about is like asking a fish if he wants a bicycle. you won't get a response cause fish can't talk | |
| The Killers – Change Your Mind Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| don't know if this has been mentioned yet, but this song sounds VERY much like the Smith's. one of my favs from this album! | |
| Pink Floyd – Us and Them Lyrics | 17 years ago |

i think you have a good handle on this song skinnyD. i remember first listening to this song, and how it stuck out to me for many reasons. most of all it left me with a vague feeling of isolation, bitterness, the mental anguish of someone who has caved to the pressures and now believes the world is out to get them. i have always taken this song to be an understated piece about injustice and bitterness towards human nature. did that make any sense?? |

| Pink Floyd – Wot's... Uh the Deal? Lyrics | 18 years ago |

this album was not as popular because it was obscured by "the dark side of the moon" the next album. that overshadowed it a little. this is a soundtrack album, from the movie (bad movie) called "the valley, obscured by clouds". its about a wealthy french woman who goes on an excursion w/ a bunch of hippies in New Guinea, and "finds herself" (or at least that the premise). i think this song is a reflection of the disappointments of the hippie life in the 70's. "paradise" sometimes leaves you empty. |

| U2 – Running To Stand Still Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| i have found this song to be one of the most powerful songs u2 has recorded. it is a despiration that is wispered, almost like a dying word. something about the song is felt and not said. obviously it is about heroin : " she will suffer the needles' chill", but like many great songs, it has many meanings, and i think is should mean what the listener hears in it. | |
| Beastie Boys – No Sleep 'til Brooklyn Lyrics | 18 years ago |

"Four on the floor - Adrock's out the door M.C.A.'s in the back because he's skeezin' with a whore We got a safe in the trunk with money in a stack With dice in the front and Brooklyn's in the back" someone told me years ago that this song was about 'the boys' goin to manhattan for prostitutes, and bringin em back over the brooklyn bridge to their crib (thus : no sleep till brooklyn). i don't think that is what it's really about, but it's kinda cool to imagine, lol. |
