@[sanctuary92:30697] I agree with a good majority of your interpretation of the song, as well as the music video (which is easily my favorite music video of all time). To expound a bit on the video: the Ogre, whose cyanotic (a symptom of low blood-oxygenation; suffocation -- as well as blue's association with sadness) head is wrapped, seems to be experiencing all of the external stimuli of the world around him, which generally consists of binding/fettering traditions, institutions and constructs whose ultimate aim/goal seems to be control (i.e. economic/financial, government, religious [marriage], etc.). Control, or perceived control, seems to be the idea, here, as the "internal Ogre" is clearly shown restrained; he's strapped to a chair and is at the hands of two disguised "doctors" (medical, medication, medicine, etc. -- which is also to illustrate the kind of blind trust/faith we put into the hands of complete strangers, who are associated with medicine or who allegedly "know better" at how we are to "better" ourselves/make ourselves feel better: "control"). You can see how unenthusiastic "blue Ogre" is, and how sympathetic the brown-haired woman appears to be: so while the external world chases after him, he chases her, to escape: from what is around him, from what is within him or both. Meanwhile, the Ogre who is strapped to the chair ("internal Ogre" - or, rather, how he perceives himself) looks to be the part of him that's receiving/desires self-medication. He is clearly in pain, injured and undergoing a type of "surgery" or operation that is meant to alleviate these ailments. Once the masks are removed from the two "surgeons", we see that, in a way, he's taken responsibility for what he's doing to himself, in tandem with the brunette woman (who is also inside of him, now). Rather than medicate/aid himself, he's been contributing to his own torture/torment and injuries. Ultimately, the "aid" of the brown haired woman leads to a quicker death (permanence), via a temporary solution: chasing the allure of perceived relief or solace. ...or maybe I'm just up my own ass about all of this... :p |

| Excuse me, the Lotus HAS been associated with the sign of Pisces. I don't want to make some claim and start spreading rumors or "false facts". | |

For those who don't know, and I may be reading into this too much, the Lotus is the flower associated with the symbol of Pisces, the era of which we are currently in which is "ruled" by the teacher or "God" known as Jesus Christ. The "Lotus" could be a metaphor for Jesus which would explain the religious theme of this song. "The lotus flowers got me thinkin 'bout the way that we live. I got this feeling, it's gonna stop." --Christianity (religion) within America and the way that it affects most of its population as well as its direct influence in how we run politics, our country and/or what is deemed morally "right" or "wrong". Could be a coincidence, though. |

| Placebo – Pierrot The Clown Lyrics | 16 years ago |

I usually try to read through a lot of the comments before leaving my own person impression, but there are way too many. There's no doubt in my mind that it's actually a reference to the clown that 'marquicerise' first posted about, but I like to think that this ties in nicely. I was searching for absinthe posters online and came across, http://www.allposters.com/-sp/Pierrot-Absinthe-Posters_i397109_.htm . For instance: "Leave me dreaming on the bed see you right back here tommorow for the next round." In reference to two things: a person and the drink. "And if you're ever around in the city or the suburbs of this town be sure to come around i'll be wallowing in sorrow wearing a frown like Pierrot the clown." Sarcasm: if you come back I'll only be drunk and ruin things again. "Wearing a frown" as in having imbibed too much alcohol. Clearly the clown in the image has a smile on his face, but it's satirical in the sense that the smile/frown are superficial and could go either way when "dreaming of their lips/kiss/fists". Yeah, I think I've killed it. Haha, great song, though. |

| Mudvayne – A Key To Nothing Lyrics | 17 years ago |

It seems like it's "more or less" about the nature of duality (opposites) and the idea of what we consider to be "right" and/or "wrong", which change depending on perspective. "No more, no less" - If you have no more than 0 and no less than 0, then you only have 0, period. "No more speaking truth, no more deceit" - No more ideas of "right and wrong". "No more new world order, no more anarchy" - No more unity, no more separation. You can't have one without the other. The solution: don't have either. Kind of the same principle seen throughout not only this song, but the entire album. The song's intent seems to be more to provoke you to think about the idea of complete and utter, absolute-"nothingness". Other than that, I love listening to it when the world seems to crap on me and I feel like I can't take anymore of people's bull shit. |

Other than obvious references to sexual innuendos, I just finished reading Dostoevsky's "The Dream of a Ridiculous Man" while listening to this song (which is fantastic, by the way) on repeat, and found that the two meshed fairly well. Kind of like watching the Wizard of Oz with Pink Floyd playing in the background. http://www.online-literature.com/dostoevsky/3368/ There's the link to the story, if you want to read it. |

| Nirvana – Junkyard Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| In case no one ever noticed, he (Kurt) seemed to ad-lib and even forget lyrics while performing. "Hold it in your gut" "Born in a junkyard" "Older than your god" "Porn in a cunt's yard" "Ownin in Yoga". The point is, he could have mumbled anything into a mic and people would have ate it up. Just appreciate the art. | |
