First of all - this song's about crossing barriers, not only sexual. I think most of us sometimes (or more frequentely) feel like our body doesn't want to subordinate to our mind. It may make you hate your body, hurt yourself, cause neurosis etc. Second - this is individual, but everyone needs acceptance, but there're ppl who need it so much, they are manipulated by society and become not what they originally wanted to be.
Everything you've suffered during your life builds your identity. i mean, he sings in the end 'it's all yours'. It doesn't matter is it good or bad, it's just you. That's what's this song about - what creates your identity as a human and how to protect it from society who can harm you. What i write might be a little bit confusing, even for me, because on the other hand we are created by the society and we cannot live outside it. tricky. |

this is the best song from the alternative.
i dunno, maybe i'm strange... first of all if i think IAMX is atheist or at least doubts in god's existance - so the line 'God give a little love' is a bit ironic. Second thing-haven't you ever hated your life so much, haven't you felt is so pointless that you wish you were something else? for example a dog? something who/what doesn't think or think more simple than human? |

carlwinlow's interpretation is the best, i think.
I guess everybody loves that part - "i wonder if he speaks like an ordinary guy? (i know him and he does!)" XD |

I agree with your interpretation. Especially with everything what goes after
"I guess it would be nice to give my heart to a god
But which one, which one do I choose?"
Maybe because I feel the same what Kevin probably feels (if we stick to your interpretation). But i can't write lyrics to express what i think :] |

| The Decemberists – Sixteen Military Wives Lyrics

Yeah, i think the song IS about United Nations. I was wondering about numbers in the song but only in this line number is clear:
Sergeant sends a letter to five military wives
I mean it's reffered to 5 permanent members of the Security Council.
I guess this song might be about how badly organized is UN and how trammelled it is.
Wingdingo, I do not agree with you. US (I don't want to insult anyone of you guys) just does what it wants to do. You think you're great and wonderfull empire of liberty and this is bullshit. you think you're better then others, so you can poke your fucking nose into other countries affairs.
US started war in Iraq only because of petroleum. Have you read about civil war in Ethiopia? Situation there is much worse then in Iraq few years ago, but US says only 'ooooh, that's not good, stop murdering people from Ogaden'. But they didn't do anything, because Ethiopia is their main buisness partner in Africa.
errr it was tiring. chatting on last.fm is much nicer :D |

Don't you guys think words
'All the party people dancing for the indie star
But he's the worst faker by far' have sth to do with words 'I wish i could talk/ I wish I could live like there was nothing to hide' from Psychotic Feeling? Everyone has sth which he doesn't want or cannot share with other people. And there are people, who just pose or act in the way strange way, 'cause they're afraid they won't be accepted.
sth just has come to my mind. People with depression usually don't want admit they're sick and they pretend and try to act as usual. I guess that's what he wanted to say. |

I agree it's about a boy, who, because of being smarter and quiet, was bullied at school (it's quite obvious). But he always felt different from other boys and now he wants to be accepted and run away from his past, that's why he's crossdresser. If you think in psychoanalytical way, pressure in childhood, kind of defense mechanism and so on |

bugmenot, maybe he is normal guy, he doesn't take drugs (So I'm always sober
Always aching, always heading towards ) He feels tired of his reality but even though he's afraid to take drugs. then he meets guy who's more experienced and this guy wants him to take drugs 'But don't take those pills your boyfriend gave you
You're too wonderful to die '. Maybe he wants to make use of him? Or just doesn't take him serious? |

I love them xd i think the meaning is pretty clear. It's about losing your ambitions. When you where young u had dreams but u started to work and everything blew up :D If you saw the clip, not that one with the guy in a sandwich shop but this one about a company it might be about all these people just working not doing anything with their lives. It's clearly said in the song, there's nothing to debate. |
