Nickelback – Savin' Me Lyrics 16 years ago
"Prison gates wont open up for me
On these hands and knees Im crawlin
Oh, I reach for you"

Talking about reaching for God.

"Well Im terrified of these four walls
These iron bars cant hold my soul in
All I need is you
Come please Im callin
And oh I scream for you
Hurry Im fallin"

Asking for God to make a change in his life. The iron bars could be a metaphor for sin or drug addiction that is afflicting his life.

"Show me what its like
To be the last one standing
And teach me wrong from right
And Ill show you what I can be
Say it for me
Say it to me
And Ill leave this life behind me
Say it if its worth saving me"

Admitting sin and wanting repentance, saying that he can lead a better life.

"Heavens gates wont open up for me
With these broken wings Im fallin
And all I see is you
These city walls aint got no love for me
Im on the ledge of the eighteenth story
And oh I scream for you
Come please Im callin
And all I need from you
Hurry Im fallin"

Admitting sin and and "all I see is you", showing the path that is wanted is a path contrary to his current or previous life. "Im on the ledge of the eighteenth story And oh I scream for you" Pleading with God that his life of sin is killing him, possibly literally. Maybe a struggle with drugs.

"Show me what its like
To be the last one standing
And teach me wrong from right
And Ill show you what I can be
Say it for me
Say it to me
And Ill leave this life behind me
Say it if its worth saving me

Hurry Im fallin"

"Say it if its worth saving me" - Asking for a response from God. Either literally through a change in his life that changes his affliction, or for God to come into his life and change his heart from the inside out.

- from a Christian perspective, but that is how I take this song. Take care and God Bless.

Pattoe, I think the obvious line that denotes the target of Christianity would be "church of Jesus Christ". I wonder if the writer of this song realizes that God gave men free will and those who pervert God's word were even looked down upon when Jesus walked the earth. If any of you have a Bible I suggest reading it.

Matthew 21:12 (New International Version)

"Jesus at the Temple
12Jesus entered the temple area and drove out all who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves."

Man should never be the benchmark for Christ, but unfortunately some people confuse man's deeds with God's and use man as their representation of God. The Bible tells us this about man;

Romans 3:10 (New International Version)
"10As it is written: "There is no one righteous, not even one;"

People read that and they generally don't like to admit it. You know if you have walked this earth without doing wrong. No one is righteous as scripture tells us, you know in your heart the things you have done that are wrong, just as those who walk this earth and pervert His name. Remember these things are why Christ gave up his life.

Romans 5:8 (New International Version)
"8But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us."

Romans 10:13 (New International Version)
"13for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.""

"Adamobs24" and "da_coolio" are apparently unaware that pointing fingers could refer to a lot of things such as Ted Kennedy accusing troops of war crimes without any solid proof. Adamobs24 wrote:"This song just shows that A7X really are a lot dumber and ignorant than a lot of us (me at least) thought" Apparently you don't know as much about politics as you would like to think you do. Don't believe everything you are force fed. I'm sure your intelligence holds right up there with the 911 truthers. I wouldn't be surprised if you support that movement.

badaboom wrote: "Okay. This part was pretty difficult to understand. It did give me the feeling like the whole world is critizing America and pointing fingers at them, while they’re just fighting for their rights. Then the part “Well, where I’m from we have a special salute…” The part where he says “Where I’m from” he means America, he’s being sarcastic. The salute to the rest of the world that keeps pointing fingers at them.

Contradicting, I know."

If you believe that is the meaning of that lyric you are delusional. Make sure you sing it loud and proud at the shows!! LOL :) Hes talking about Americans; "So, how does it feel to know that someone’s kid in the heart of America has blood on their hands fighting to defend your rights", whose rights do you think they are talking about? So who are pointing fingers? ...ding ding ding.. Other Americans. Where does the middle finger go to, those who are pointing fingers(other Americans). You get it?

P.O.D. – Alive Lyrics 18 years ago
If you watch the music video it is briefly about a girl and mostly about a near death experience. Sometimes near death experiences can awaken someone much in the way a Christian is re-born and has a new chance at life with Christ. Your life is ultimately changed after being born again and I think that was the message or image the video was trying to portray. Not to mention it is no coincidence that Sonny sings to the sky in effigy. Hes certainly not singing to a deceased girlfriend. :) Knowing this, you can just simply look at the lyrics and easily decipher what this song means.

The most conspicuous lyric which can't be construed as just a general ballad of love or self discovery would have to be:
"Tell the world how I feel inside
Even though it might cost me everything"

Why would telling the world about a love of a woman cost him everything(not to mention I'm not sure how this would apply to a general self discovery)? This is obviously about a love for Jesus Christ. Hes talking about how he doesn't care if it hurts their record sales for being labeled a "Christian rock band". As for the self discovery aspect, you are actually partially right when you mention this. When Christians are born again, the discover themselves in a whole new light. Hope this may shed some light on the meaning as well.
