So if this is their 'Water' album, does that make Remission the 'Earth' album, and Blood Mountain is 'Air'? Or the other way around. I know they have an elements theme to the last 3 records, but beyond Leviathan I can't figure out which is which. |

Possibly THE best Sikth song ever, while, surprisingly, not one of their heaviest. I even learned how to webrip just because i was so obsessed woth this song back in 2005 when it was a demo called 'death of a dead day'. And it was absolutely the best song i heard that entire year. It has everything, and is simply an incredible piece of music. 10 stars out of 5. Unbelievable. WHY DID BOTH SINGERS LEAVE??? NOOOOOO!!!! |

This is one of those great interpretive songs. It's so open ended that it's left to the listener to put their own twist on the lyrics. This song made a big comeback for me during an intense fallout with a girl. Things got extremely complicated, and I looked to the simplicity of these lyrics to keep me sane. I could spend hours explaining to someone all the reasons her and I couldn't be together, but all I really needed to to say was 'We ain't right'. It is really profound how much this short little song helped me through such an agonizing time.
P.S. I'm not an emo kid, this was a real problem. Not flakey high school bullshit. It's really a shame I have to point that out. Damn you emo kids. Now none of us can feel shit anymore. |

Also, a great song to jam to, if your bass player doesn't mind playing the same line over and over. And kick him if he does, cause it's one of the most compelling and melodic bass riffs ever. |

Had no idea so many of my fellow chains fans were so emotional. Shame this song (as well as others) seem to make you guys cry. I hear this and I see myself driving north, to the woods. In fact, Jar Of Flies may be the best camping cd ever. And along with the Smashing Pumpkins' Siamese Dream is my favourite album of all time. I agree with the first post about the meaning. Dead on. |

| Porcupine Tree – Shallow Lyrics

After painfully trying to decode to Deadwing story, I've learned that this song is pretty simply laid out, compared to the ambiguity of something like 'Glass Arm Shattering". And though I really try not to be one of those people who believes they identify with a song more than others, I think I've nailed this one. Someone tell me if I'm way off. This song, to me, sounds like the words of a girl I know. Socially damaged, trying to rationalize why not to enter into a relationship. This character seems to grown to hate the general public, and is trying to pass of pessemism as realism, by telling themselves they're better off alone. If all they allow themself to want is shallow then they can't be hurt by someone. I could go on in length, but to me, it just sounds like at this point in the story the character is rejecting the concept of a relationship with the other. Whether this be told from the male, or female's perspective. |
