i see an alcoholic who talks his way out of things and his kids getting taken away as well as his house. "While you slept it off Your empire was lost Now we're not your sons Your old silver tongue It don't work too well now" silver tongue means eloquent speech. Then as his kids are going through the rest of their life they have more trouble then normal "We wandered off With our heads nice and soft But we were still numb And we burned in the sun And got torn to pieces" The kids then went out of their way to get attention. not sure about the "flying" things underneath the floorboards. seems like they got in a fight, at a bar. "I walked across from eyes And scratched my name into the sky The things beneath my floorboards fly I'll never let them out And all my teeth are down at my feet And all of the blood comes in a flood Start counting sheep" the kids grow up ending up with the same problem as their father. they have health issues as well as they try to get by with little money. they're not scared of the problems because they are older. "While we slept it off All the money was lost Now we can't stand up Yeah, the blood in our guts It just weighs us down now We'll crawl along Despite what goes wrong 'cause we're not that young Takes more than your guns to scare us off now" at the end i see one of the kids dying and not caring, seems almost peaceful. like the struggle in their life was so unnecessary and now they can finally be free of things that weren't their fault. |

--It seems to me its telling a story of how your friend basicly fell apart. In through your window the sky will fall. You'll trap the stars in jars and line them along your walls. As the moonlight fills the veins beneath your skin, You'll hear us knocking, oh, but you won't let us in. --a friend of the theirs gets depressed --stays inside and traps "stars", hopes and dreams, in a jar --"the moonlight fills the veins beneath your skin" means that they stay up a lot and probably do nothing during the day. --they see their friends trying to see whats going on but ignore it Because you've got no friends, And you've got no heartbeat. Your insides are rotten now. So there's nothing to fix. --self explainitory --they don't care anymore. --they have a bad personality and don't care about being friends --so there's nothing to fix But you said it often, before you were lost, That it's only a day. That it's only a day. But now you're a monster, and your backbone is soft. Because you threw it away. Because you threw it away. --used to have a different view --friend used to be optimistic and still try --they turned out bad and now they have no "backbone" You called me out; I shrugged you off. You might just dodge the guns. --they eventually tried to fix the relationship they had, person no longer cared --they were still the same --either talking about the friend or themself. This song, to me, means that he's obiously at a point in his life where he's not gonna be hurt anymore or give up. "I won't suffer, be broken Get tired or wasted Surrender to nothing Or give up what I started And stop this From end to beginning" He's starting over, and is free from what ever pain he had. "A new day is coming And I am finally free" And that he's finally changed and ready to help someone else whom he cares about stop hurting and giving up. Or that he's threatening the person who hurt him. "Run away, run away I'll attack Run away, run away Go change yourself Run away, run away I'll attack, I'll attack, I'll attack" He had someone whom he loved but for some reason let him go and he's changed because of that, so that he finally sees things clearly. "I would've kept you forever But we had to sever It ended for both of us Faster than a . . . Kill off this thinking It's starting to sink in I'm losing control now Without you I can finally see." The person whom he loved lied to him and hurt him and now he's finally free of them. "Your promises They look like lies Your honesty Like a back that hides a knife I promise you I promise you I am finally free" ;) |
