so few comments on his most amazing song!!
I think this song has so many levels. He knows that are truly in love and good together but he can't stop being anxious and fearful about many things...even being in love is never perfect b/c you are terrified of losing it. "People are so fickle, they fall in love at different angles"-- he is afraid of losing her b/c it's hard to say why someone is in love with you, you know they ARE, but you can't see yourself how they do. What if she is someone who falls in love easily, or she is attracted to one certain part of who he is? He doesn't know what "angle" she fell in love with him from, so he is afraid he won't be able to keep her around when the "rush" (the honeymoon-ish stage of first meeting someone, etc) wears off and she's left with this "busted person"---who he is on the inside, flaws and all. He is also in disbelief--"I'm worried if you really think I'm worth it!" she is so great and he has those feelings we all have like, "seriously?? you're in love with ME? how?" Also he is afraid of her past...the older we get, the more ex's everyone is gonna have and he is afraid she still misses them or puts them on a pedstal and is using him to not feel alone. Everyone wants to feel like the only one...!
also....one of my exs used to call me super early in the morning ALL the time freaked out, half asleep & like about to cry (kinda weird) b/c he was always dreaming i was cheating on him. which never would have happened in a million years, but it always reminds of this song and shows that dreams really affect us more than we know...they get under our skin! |

...has anyone ever noticed konstantine...sounds like constant teen? he is so stuck on her and all this that happened when he was a teen that he is constantly in that state. just a funny coincidence.
i know this is cliche but I honestly believe this can't relate to anyone's situation more than mine in so many ways. i could write a freaking 20 page term paper on what it means to me haha.
Also I don't think it's perverted like the person above said, couples in high school hang out in living rooms alot and i think you can tell he really loves her. |

i may or may not have listened to this song like 73 times recently, my favorite by him...anyways, this is a sweet little song. hah. the lyrics are very simple, they just express that ache you have for certain people that you sometimes can't even explain. a good ache. & really, love can be complicated, but don't we all just want someone who makes us feel good when we are lonely when it comes down to it? simply put. |

This song may be about one specific situation, but it can also relate to any time you felt like everything was right and you were yourself and with people who really loved you...and then to suddenly not have that anymore. very hard to deal with. you feel like you are half-living for a while b/c of whatever/whoever/a time period you are missing so much. |

for everyone who is annoyed that she is saying women are more sensitive than men ...you can still be a feminist and be vulnerable sometimes and sensitive. A real lady knows when to be strong & when to show emotion/be "soft". Trying to achieve equality w/ men doesn't mean we need to deny all "feminine" qualities & act like they are embarassing, in fact that is kind of taking a step backwards...let's face it, men & women DO have natural differences & they can be a beautiful thing. Besides I think she is only talking about herself anyways. But even so, this song just reinforces the fact sensitivity is nothing to be ashamed of...
& the last verse is ridiculously awesome. The conflict part kinda reminds me of politics, or just people's opinions in general. Everyone wants to fight and share their almighty opinion 24/7 like it's the most important thing there is (when a lot of times they don't know the whole story/are misinformed), but it takes a much bigger and at-peace person to just step back and think, or disregard conflict sometimes. She is saying the world is a messed up place, but she doesn't want to allow people showing disrepect or being rude to affect her & her child-like/innocent way of looking at things...we are all angels in our way but we let bad things and even just daily life in general jade us too much.

Sometimes the passing of time is good and sometimes it's bad but even when it's good, it's hard to accept that things are always changing. I know a lot of songs aren't meant to be taken literally but I'm suprised everyone seems to be taking the animals figuratively. I think it quite literally means that his ex left probably a few days ago & she is still in the process of getting all of her stuff out of the place & she finally took their pets home last night. Now she is gone and all her stuff is gone and the last sign of life besides himself--the animals---are gone and he feels so freaking alone in his house & nothing feels right. When someone breaks up with you, (especially a long relationship like this one) & you still want to be with them, it takes so long for it to sink in that you are not together & you're not going to win them back. The chorus alone is just such a brilliant way to express all that, don't get me started on the verses....to dream about someone each night & then wake up & know that they may never, ever, in your whole life be next to you again is the worst feeling EVER. God, this is the most intense song ever created. |

Well...most of the lyrics and stuff baffle me & don't really mean much to me. But two lines set the meaning to me...& it sounds really typical, but it reminds me of a break-up, a really bad one.
"If you knew I was dying, would it change you?"
My boyfriend of 2 1/2 years broke up w/ me a week ago. As I was driving today & it was raining hard, I worried about getting in a crash. Then I had a thought....if I got in a car wreck, or was diagnosed with a terminal illness or something...would he want to be with me again & realize we are meant to be? He tells me he still loves me but he just wants to be alone right now & feels "old". It sounds like a sick fantasy, but when you just want to change someone's mind so badly...you would do anything. & the way they quietly whisper that line, like they are ashamed to think it, but can't stop wondering, is so right. I also think they are saying, hey, I am dying emotionally, and i am dying inside; so how can that NOT change you??
"When I fly so low (OR it can be SOLO--hence the breakup, you are SOLO & so low)...I fly so high"
This is them trying to convince themselves things will be better & lets us see without these bad times we wouldn't appreciate amazing good times.
Now that I read it more, I see more & more that shows this could be the end of a serious relationship. So not a typical break-up song & so amazing! But I think it can be interpreted many ways |

this song is so suprising b/c he really gets how being a girl feels sometimes. like how she feels everything would change & her life would be better if she had better hair, clothes, body etc but it still won't. But being a girl, a small part of her will always feel like looks are part of the answer even though she knows better. and "the game" is this whole cycle of looks & superficialness & playing dumb that girls have to go through.
i also think he is trying to make a point when he says that she hates her body, she feels like everyone is staring etc. you get the idea she might be overweight. But then him referring to her as having a "baby body" in his eyes the whole time shows she really just has a nice average body, maybe even a really petite one. She is imagining her body far much worse than it is, when it looks good to everyone else. |
