i agree partially with the relgion interpretation, but i think that is just a specific subsection of a deeper meaning about trying to attain both understanding and contentment in a world where no one knows what the fuck is going on. it's about recognizing the illusions life presents and questioning the assumptions of the times. It's about being honest with yourself, and most of all my favorite part of the song: Thought ‘twas an alien Turned out to be just god has a double meaning i love. i think the 'twas was intentional to have the double meaning. i like to interpret as he was in a state of mind where his thoughts felt alien, but then he realized that thought was pure energy/God/Tao/THe singularity/whathaveyou. Then you can look at the not to believe and to decieve line as it is God who has the best reason to decieve because he is the symbol of all existence and everything is derived from the essence of him, so God is truth, god is deception, it's a paradox that confuses the fuck out of me. And then in a sense our thought is God. So God is always surrounding us. "Just a fight or just a waste of time Hiding things that no one wants to find" makes one wonder why we all lie so much to both ourselves and other selves. We all hide so much, but in the end it just drives us crazy when we supress so much, and what we thought for so long was the best thing to do turns out to just be a waste of time, so to overcome this human drama we are all subject to and see the bigger picture, we must go against our minds, look at things in a new perspective. Probably inspired by drugs, as this subjective opinion is. maybe they're just God. to say it's just speaking against relgion is to deny a much deeper philosophical meaning. |

my favorite song, and i'm amazed it's not more popular. it made me want to tattoo a revised version of the lyrics "searching for someone to kill the joy of wandering and end desire, to remind the road is nothing but a gorgeous blue-eyed liar" that's just like the human struggle for love in my opinion, and also how our thoughts and desires are just an illusion of sorts, but the art of it all is gorgeous. |

fuckin good song. i think you're right in a sense, but i think it's a lot deeper as well. it's about an existential choice, the fear of choice, a fear of a future that lacks something you can't let go of from the past. It's about how we'll never really understand anything fully as the essence of the world is a mystery, a void. It's about being in the moment, "train tracks can't decide " seems to say that you have to be here now to make the choice to move in a more positive direction, if you are in a stupor where you are stuck on a thought or stuck in a cycle, you are in a sense inanimate, and thus you cannot mold your future. it's about a lot of things. |

| it's not necassarily based on religion, but on spirituality, the connection of the soul to a mysterious universe nobody understands in this point in our primitive state as human beings. Hence, "help me find it's origin", the singularity of the universe. i think this whole album is based on his psychedelic experience, which brings much spirituality and also extreme confusion and lonliness. | |

| this song reminds me of a black hole and although he believes in the eternal existance of the universe. it is so beautifully written that it can be applied to so many situations. but the fact that time slows down, as it does in a black hole, seems as if he is saying that time has no meaning, like it is just a product of the mind. it's like he is approaching the singularity that is his lonliness, his isolation from evertying. i also see that there are lots of problems in his life as "reset our dials all wrong" and "something set us off into the wrong direction", but with the reference of time having no meaning, it's as if he is suggesting infinity exists and all the problems will go away as we progress through life and evertying will be ok. those are just the thoughts that i get while listening to this songs. this whole album is exactly how i feel on psychedelic drugs and the spirituality and isolation, which is paradoxical to feel them both at the same time, but that's life for you. | |
